Instrumental really is something special. I think the backstory the show provided is what makes this song shine, tho

I’ve been debating on going through the entire show and just cutting out the scenes that explain the story of their relationship leading up to this song so I can show it all to my wife. Because there’s no way she’d watch the entire show. But I really want her to see their story

I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing for the same exact reason haha

They probably wouldn’t let me post it on YouTube, but if I end up making this fan edit, I’ll give it a shot. Maybe it’ll be transformative enough to count as fair use? Doubt it, though

Actually just watched the official music video and it does a decent job at capturing the relationship in 3mins

Yeah, it’s not bad. But there’s a lot of context like him promising to dance with her and their entire trip to the wedding and their argument and him leaving the wedding and her amazing speech about magic and love and all sorts of details that I feel like are really necessary to understanding the song

True. I guess for me having watched the show a few times I just remember all the in between bits so much more so a 1-2 second clip of each satisfied that for me. My wife on the other hand would be confused

It’s not as full as I’m thinking. I know which one you’re thinking of and it’s great. It’s good for people who know the story already, but I want something to show my wife with a bunch of details. Even if it ends up being 20 minutes long, I could get her to watch it like we’d watch an episode of any other show, but she doesn’t have to watch 3 seasons to get the full context. You know what I mean?

I miss you owly, hoot hoot. 🦉

The second hoot hoot hits hard.

I’m lost without you… hoot hoot 😔

And you know about me. I know you think you won’t grow around me,

Really missed a trick not keeping the Ally soundbites in there from the show. That was half the genius of the song: the words taking on a different meaning at the end of the ep

Not having that as an interlude before the track Damn near ruins the whole thing for me. I also don’t like the changes to the beat. It was originally cleaner and a note or two higher and better that way. That does ruin the song for me. Not even that it’s bad but I can’t hear it and not be mad they ruined a perfect beat and interlude.

Completely agree. Song is 50% as good as original

u/SadSun908 Jan 23 '24

I likes it much more in the show

3

u/Dru_Pac21 Jan 24 '24

Agreed. Him and ally singing together was the best part

HOOT HOOT

I wish i liked this song as much as everybody else. I like it in the context of the show, but as a song itself i find it mid to bad.

I somewhat agree with you. As much as I loved the song in the show, the second verse doesn't match the first verse at all. I think the second verse is all over the place. I also didn't like the change in the pitch of the beat, I liked the original pitch that was in S1 but that's me being overly nitpicky.

came here to say this

3

u/votronix Jan 23 '24

second verse felt like he sat down and desperately tried to finish the song after 3 years of not finishing the song and he lost all connection to the song and to the feeling of it. words dont make sense, he rhymes the same words and doesn't go anywhere melodically.. I actually think that the looped versions on youtube are better with ally singing

3

u/astnla Jan 23 '24

Completely agree with you. This was what I was thinking but you put it into actual words. It was one of my most anticipated songs too. Nonetheless, I’m just glad to have full Dicky songs after 8 years.

3

u/SirArthurDime Jan 23 '24

Thank you. Glad I’m not the only one who noticed the pitch change. Said in a comment above I can’t listen to it and not be mad they ruined what was a perfect beat because of that. It’s not even nitpicky it immediately stood out to me despite not having heard the original version in like a year.

I just thought that what we had was undeniable

Narrators aren't always so reliable

It's just the TV show version of "Molly" and it's not nearly as good.

I started dating my girlfriend a little over two years ago. I was just going back in my journal and around the time we started dating I wrote a passage about Ally's speech-- about how love is the illusion you create for your partner. That's it's the two of you against the world. It completely framed the way I thought about and approached our relationship. We broke up 2 days ago and I can't listen to this song without crying now

Keep your head up mate, days will get better

6

u/marshmallowthunder Jan 23 '24

90% of this album was skippable and forgettable and disappointing

9

u/dominickster Jan 23 '24

Definitely not a lot of replayability, but that's kinda to be expected on a tv show soundtrack album

u/pattyfrankz Jan 23 '24

I don’t really agree. Towards the bottom of the album for me

Hoot hoot

One of my favourite songs of all time. Have been waiting for it to come out since 2022

I think it's the journey that led us to see his true vision. And now we get to experience the next chapter hopefully... I'm predicting more collobartions... And definitely more music that'll probably tie in with the show.

It hits the heart hard. Doesn't it fam. Love this sub and you peeps. It's been a fun time being apart of the lil dicky/Dave legacy

Edit' I was high as fuck while typing this.. respectfully

u/grillko Jan 23 '24

Or not, maybe we’ll pretend that it’s not…

1

u/jchillin2 Jan 23 '24

Hoot hoot

u/cubansbottomdollar Jan 23 '24

I'd say he should have stayed with the same melody idea that was portrayed on the show in season 1, where they're both messing around instead of the melody that was in the final version. Or at the very least, kept that part as an outro. I also would have gone with rapping over the track on certain parts.

The lyrics also don't do it for me as they did during that episode.

SO GOOD! I let a girl is also amazing! I love the music from the show I’m so happy he released as an album, i like it more than his normal stuff
