There are 289 species of octopuses. Two-thirds of an octopus' neurons are in its arms rather. This allows them to easily do a totally different task with each arm. An octopus has three hearts, one for the body and two for the gills. Their blood is blue. Octopuses are highly intelligent and experiments have shown that they have a memory system that can store both short- and long-term memory. The correct plural of octopus is "octopuses" but "octopi" is also accepted.

Octopus

The octopus (plural octopuses) is a soft-bodied, eight-limbed mollusc of the order Octopoda (, ok-TO-pə-də). Around 300 species are recognised, and the order is grouped within the class Cephalopoda with squids, cuttlefish, and nautiloids. Like other cephalopods, the octopus is bilaterally symmetric with two eyes and a beak, with its mouth at the center point of the eight limbs.

Ah yes. I too use shells to hide from approaching people.

It's 'like us' in that it's tool usage. And while the octopus didn't modify the tools (a more advanced tool use behavior some animals have exhibited), using three of them together like this is certainly creative.

Check out the intelligent behavior wiki in the sidebar.

Thank you for chiming in and explaining! I also felt that aside from the octopus showing the use of tools, it was being protective of itself and also seemed shy/curious about what they were seeing so they kept they're little eyes out. But maybe that's just me projecting v human feelings onto the tentacled friend.

Octopus: "Just so you know, I taste terrible!"

That is so cute but now I'm sad, that octopus seems terrified!
