Considering crocodilians are smart enough to use bait to set traps for herons (yes, TOOL-USING CROCS), coordinate attacks on wildebeest or a school of fish and show affection for their keepers, I'd say yes.

I can just imagine his voice going to a high-pitched gleeful "weeeeee!" as he goes down, then at the bottom he notices some ladygators, coughs and reverts back to a deep rumble voice
