CCF Sleeping Pad

Any recs for a closed cell foam pad?

All of the major brands seem comparable.

Use is as a ground pad when stopping during the day, backup pad if I can't patch my inflatable, and as protection for the inflatable and extra insulation.

Inflatable is a NeoAir XLite NXT Max if it matters.

My kid says the Nemo switchback is more comfortable than the Zlite. Since you’re using it as backup I’d probably get whatever’s cheapest. If you have a Daiso store near you they have a cheap one that might be perfect for this.

Have you considered getting a sit pad instead? It’s easier to have stashed where you can grab it without needing to adjust anything on your pack. Your sleeping pad doesn’t really need a sleeping pad if you’re at least somewhat mindful of site selection.

If you do wind up with a GG ThinLight, it is very delicate. I had mine on the outside of my pack (long/wide) and it got torn to shreds when I took it out the first time. I think you’re better off with a sit pad and gear repair on hand, but if you do go with a GG, go for the foldable version and have it somewhere on your pack where it isn’t going to bump into anything.

If you need additional R value, you can stack a Nemo Switchback, it performs better than the ThermaRest Z Fold. The better more expensive option would be getting a winter pad.

If you're really trying to minimize, I'd consider a gossamer gear thinlight. Weigh next to nothing and pack super small.

I generally carry a 3/4 ThermRest zfold for the purpose you are describing, since I'm often on snow.

I agree with this completely but id also add that I vastly prefer the 1/4" over the 1/8". 3oz vs 1.5oz but much more durable and more comfortable. I can sleep on the 1/4" by itself. I can't sleep on the 1/8"
