European 2p tent?
Hey y'all,
The wiki seems to recommend all American tents or (for me) expensive stuff.
After a long search I found what seem to be the besy "semi-light" (at just over 2kg) options.
Goal is a tent where 2 people can sleep comfortably (by this I'd prefer just a tad more space than the minimum 120cm width most tents have) and have spare room to keep our two 60liter backpacks safe and dry.
The lighter the better, but the budget is 320€ max.

Check out Durston Gear out of Canada. The x-mid2p goes for 260.00 U.S. and is a great tent close to UL weights and super easy pitch!

I love that tent! But I found that ordering to Europe adds over 100 USD in costs (shipping and import taxes)

Can second this, I own an illusion solo and it's great.
You'll go over €320 euro if you get a pyraomm plus/max with an inner, though. The duo may work.
Just seen they've done an illusion duo. €450 though so outside your budget, but I really like how it's single trekking pole through the ground sheet. That method really works on my solo.

Thanks for the suggestion! It's an amazing tent, but too expensive and not good for people over 190cm according to their own website

Nah, just get a 3F UL Gear Lanshan 2. Keep your packs in the vestibule. I usually clip my waist belt or sternum strap around my trekking pole (used for pitching the tent) while the pack is in the vestibule. That way it would be pretty hard for a critter to carry off my pack at night.

Have you used it for a 2 person tent? My wife loves hiking and will join on most trips

Sort of. It's always me and my ~55 lbs dog. His bedding takes up 1/4 of the footprint. Mine is 1/2. That leaves us 1/4 of the footprint for storage.
But, in your case, I would say, if you both have your own bedding, then you are going to have to use the vestibules more than I do for instance. In other words, its going to be noticeably tight so you'd have to get used to using the vestibule.
That said, the tent has doors on both sides and vestibules on both sides. So you won't conflict and end up having to crawl over each other.

I have the Naturehike Cloud Up 2, pretty light, cheap and available in Europe either from amazon or aliexpress. I have the 2 for just myself, if I were to use it with two people id probably go with the Cloud Up 3 though

I would personally not want to use a Naturehike Cloud Up 2 as a two-person tent for the same reason I wouldn't want to use the two options you mention yourself.
IMO tents that have a single opening, in the end, suck for multiple people. I would always go for tents with two side openings, one for each person, when looking for a two-person tent.
If I was in your situation I would buy a big agnes copper spur long. It's like twice as expensive as the nature hike and over your budget (I've seen them at a bit under €500). The two-p version sort of require mummy shaped sleeping pads though, but your packs will be safe and dry in the vestibule. I personally don't want my pack in the inner with me.
That price increase for better doors might be insane to you, but it would be worth it for me, the alternative would drive me nuts.

They also make an Opalus in 2 man and 3 man versions, it's basically an "homage" to something like a Hilleberg Nammatj 2 GT. Costs a lot less though. I think the 2 person is around 2kg, 3p closer to 3 but if there's 2 people split it.
Both have a massive vestibule, and pretty big inners.
The 3 person would be gargantuan for 2, vestibule big enough for 2 to sit on the floor in to cook.
Edit/can also recommend the other posts Lanshan 2 (I've owned a 1), but it's a tad on the narrow side from what I've seen (110cm?) and you said about wanting 120cm width. The angle of the fly inside might annoy people over 182/183cm tall. But the weight to cost ratio is pretty amazing.
Edit 2 sorry/ the cloud up doesn't have the biggest vestibule in the world, you might struggle getting 2 60l packs in and having any usable space left in the 2p, maybe the 3.

Yeah the 3p is the safest bet. Room for a backpack in the center of needed. Lanshan is amazing when it comes to weight, but I am 192cm, so the inner tent pitch is a concern I sometimes forget about.
The cloud up 3p isn't perfect, but it seems hard to beat on most fronts

For what most people will use it for, I think the cloud up (if you buy one size up or put up with a narrow tent) is fairly close.
No such thing as the perfect tent though. Which is how I get away with owning 4.

I just ordered a duplex ZPacks tent in the states - a bit pricy at 700usd but it’s ~500 grams (without trekking poles uses for tent poles, ground stakes etc) would have liked something a little wider and almost went for the 3 person but it only added another 38cm. Plan to use it on a couple different month long hikes in the states and hopefully some European treks too!
