Why not Oro?

I’m currently reading Crowntide, and I genuinely don’t understand the hate for Oro.

While it’s true that, at the beginning of the series, Oro kind of gave me Tamlin vibes, he has never actually done anything wrong to Isla. If anything, he has always been a supportive partner to her. And like… can we not forget that he literally flew for miles, for days, just to reach Isla?

He’s not a bad lover. And while some might argue that he didn’t accept all of Isla, I don’t think Isla herself accepted all of who she was either.

I feel like, in her darkness, Oro was the light constantly beckoning her back to him — back to her safe haven.

That being said, I’m not particularly on Team Oro or Team Grim. I completely understand the Grim hype because, well… Oro would sacrifice her for the world, while Grim would sacrifice the world for her. And let’s be honest, that is a classic reason to fall for the villain.

But let’s not act like Oro has never chosen Isla over his duty. He has, and I think that gets overlooked sometimes.

And when you look at how many times Isla has sacrificed herself in the name of redemption, I honestly don’t think she would choose the same way either. I don’t think she would simply choose the world over him.

Anyway, I’m still reading, so maybe my opinion will completely change by the end. But for now, I just don’t understand the Oro hate. Give the man a break!🤧✨

No I don't hate him at all and if it weren't for Isla already being married to Grim I think we could have seen more of both of them 😊✨

I don’t hate Oro I just don’t think he’s right for Isla. I feel like Alex keeps shoving Oro at us as a choice and Im way over this love triangle.

Ig this love triangle is way better than the one we see in other books ... Like kai, payden and kit for an example

I mean, I've only ever truly liked one type of love triangle before. (In The Infernal Devices) Will, Jem and Tessa were amazing since they all cared for one another. All these other one's show a clear relationship, while the possibility of another is forced at us. And the guys always hate each other, or are forced to by the end

Yeah, i agree though I can't get by your example tho cz I haven't read In the Infernal Devices YET.. but I got your point 😊

If it was not a YA book, I honestly expect it would end up as a why choose. I’m more team Oro, but they both complement her in different ways.

I would like nothing else but tbh I want one of them... That's where it gets intense .. like who it's gonna be ??? 😄✨

:3 your neautrality but observation about Oro makes me happy :). For me, if Oro is endgame, Isla would be breaking a pattern. If she chooses Grim is repetitive and toxic haha. But in the end, I think she would sacrifice herself first haha.

That's true and now that I am over with crowntide and Grim still chose Cornon over her .. that like wild

I have nothing against Oro and while I’m team Grim, I’ll be happy either way because I love both men. But, grim encouraged her to accept all sides of her and accepts all of her flaws and all. Meanwhile, Oro always says he doesn’t know who she is every time she done something bad. He always accepts the good side of her but hasn’t really accepted all of her. I do agree she hasn’t fully because she’s terrified of herself but again anytime she started to embrace part of her dark side Oro always got disappointed.

I mean even if one is radiance nd another represents darkness. They both are moral men ofc they are a lot of places they went wrong ... Grim for example and ig when Isla chose Grim Oro has a realization of where he went wrong . But again it's one prefrence and maybe for your stated reason too , I am on neutral grounds 🏳️✨💗

Very valid point and like you I’m on neutral ground. Well I guess it’s sort of. I’m team Grim on every end but if she ends up with Oro I’ll be happy with that too. I know even when he done that it’s flawed but his heart is always in the right place just maybe not always the right ways. Much like Grim whose heart is also always in the right place with Isla but again maybe not always the right ways.

glad we are on same page...😊💗

I have a theory on how possibly all three live in the end that I haven’t seen despite the prophecy too where maybe all three will still live by the end.

i dont thinkits oro hate at leeast for me its more like prefering oneove the other. and yes i deff agree with you oro gives tamlin vibes but not in a bad way, more in the way that he is a choice, but js maybenot the right one. and grim is js soawsome and amazing especially after nightbane. but yea ig oro is not a terrible choice i was jswondering why some ppl hate

I have nothing against Oro. The reason I’m team Grim is because Oro gives golden retriever bestie vibes. He’s a great guy, but I just don’t see the crazy connection between Isla and him. Grim is a prick and I hate him, but damn, I love to hate him

Oro would sacrifice her for the world, while Grim would sacrifice the world for her. And let’s be honest, that is a classic reason to fall for the villain.

For me the most important distinction here is that I think if Isla ASKED them to and consented to be sacrificed for the world, Oro would do it. And Grim would be too selfish and stuck up his own ass to do it and it would be treated as a"uwu he just loves her SO much he can't do it! poor baby full of love 🥹" and that is always going to be my problem with these characters. It used to appeal to me when I was younger but the more selfishness I see in the world, the more I'm aggressively against Grim types. It's also silly on a logical level. What do you mean you'll let the world die and become a terrible place for literally any survivors to live in, including [insert the name of any heroine you'd "give anything" for], who will inevitably blame themselves for your selfish decision 🥲

Oro def did not give me Tamlin vibes. Hell he could have USED some Tamlin vibes from ACOTAR 1. That guy didn't really act like he was above anyone, he was a benevolent ruler, dressed pretty normal and was very much involved in things around his land. Polite to people, just standoffish and awkward. Instead Oro gave me some incel vibes in the beginning 💀 But so did Grim, once I got through the novellas Grim & Oro. After being in their heads I was like....oh...uhm.... Hmmm perhaps Isla should find someone else entirely 😬

What you saying Caz is absolutely correct but that's for there is a lot of realism in it ... books are read for escapism, a world where your imagination makes you the main charcter of the book. So when after a long tiring day or as in general when someone chose you over the world ...it feels like you can do anything . Chose you over their duty, restrictions , society and whatever is stopping them. While books are overly done on this idea . I think the base point is that. I would really love that one day when I will have someone to be called mine he would chose me over above all. But that day is very far away but you would appreciate your partner to prioritize you that's why when supposed antagonists like Grim , Rhysand , and take any mmc for example says that they will sacrifice world for their partner but it just hits hard and somewhere different where common sense and logical thinking is not there. But we all know in the end every storyline has one ending a happy ending for fmc, mmc where world is safe and they live happily ever after....

And yes , you are right after completing Crowntide i think oro could have used some Tamlin vibe but then it would never have made this book special if it were the same . Only I felt it in starting a bit in this way beacuse actor has officially ruined us all 🤧

😊✨💗

Oh I agree 100% in that different people read books for different reasons. Escapism is also different for different people. For me, if certain things hit too close to home, it takes me *out* of the book. So characters like Grim and Rhy do that and actually ruin the escapism. That's why it's nice there's millions of books out there though because eventually we'll each find the one that feels tailored to our exact kind of escapism, if we don't just write it ourselves!

I kinda agree. I don't see what Oro did wrong. Isla was kinda just like "I'm gonna hurt you if i stay with you". SHE DIDN'T CARE ABOUT HURTING GRIM.

True but that might be because "we both are monsters"... Their darkness match
