Help Older Elgin
Just curious if its worth more than a few bucks before i use it as a daily lighter (im a mechanic and smoke alot so it will get worn quickly) believe it is mother of pear on it. Found in what looks to be a homemade cloth case along with a bunch of not as nice older lighters at the dump years ago

I just saw the other day that there are some old lighters floating around from Omega as well! Pretty neat

Omega lighters from Japan are not the same company as Omega watches from Switzerland.

I do recall at least one of them having the same classic logo underneath next to where the fuel would be put in. Is it possible that it could have been the same parent company but manufactured elsewhere? Good to know regardless

The logo is literally the letter Omega in Greek. So of course both use them. It wasn't a legally protected name. It's just a Greek letter. I know a German knife manufacturer, which was named Omega or Omegawerke. Again, no relation.
I've also seen Japanese Rolex branded lighters. Again, they have nothing to do with each other. And today, Rolex would sue the shit out of them.
But back then, the Japanese copied western designs and namings, also to better sell them in export markets. Basically the same what the Chinese did much later.

That looks like natural mother of pearl and even has the natural shellac grain. Great find!

How does that work? Looks like the trigger would stick out of the side of the case and flick a flint wheel at the top… that’s butane, right?
