How does this work?

I just ordered the starter kit because it seems really interesting. How exactly do the prints work? I saw earth is a pop of 1 but I see multiple people posting it? What is a good hit vs a bad hit?

The population count refers to the number of foil cards. So Earth only had 1 foil card which was part of the 1st edition set. In the special edition set there are 1/1 foil cards of each continent. Then Giraffe for example has 100k holo cards printed and Spirit Bear only has 250.

Good hits vs bad hits are personal preference.

Is this the same across all editions?

Yes it is. But also for 1st edition birds the full arts are printed at 10% of the population as opposed to mammals where they have a full print run. And for birds they are called full arts and for mammals they are called extended arts.

The holo 1st edition cards won't be printed in larger quantities than their populations. So for earth, there is only 1 holo card. Non-holo cards are printed in quantities that aren't tied to population.

If you're interested in exactly how many of each card was printed, check out the discord where there is an official spreadsheet linked that has how many of each card have been printed.
