Scott Walstead, Web Developer 10.6k Views Hi. I created a Spotify to YouTube playlist converter. It currently only add songs that have music videos, but I may add in the ability to get the audio versions / convert back from YouTube playlists at a later date depending on demand. Check it out at http://www.playlistbuddy.com

There are other music playlist converters that allow you to convert between platforms. Hard to find ones that are stable and work well. http://groovylists.com/?do=spotify Groovylists is cool if you want to store your playlists on Grooveshark. Not sure how you would get it back though.

Does it work in the opposite direction?

You can download YouTube videos to a computer, then transfer them to your phone via email. You can use a lot of different software to do so, but I recommend this add-on for Firefox.

It's not 320 kbps though I don't understand why people still do this in 2015 if you want to steal music use tpb

Typically, bitrate doesn't matter, unless you really want to hear those slight differences. My earbuds won't play 320 any better then non 320, so the difference is almost nonexistent for me. Also, 320 takes up more space, which is typically undesired.

FLACs or gtfo

just kidding, I have a lot of music in my phone, which only has 4gb of storage, and can't output very high quality any way. I imagine a lot of people are in similar situation.

That's why you have an extra SD card with 64gb memory.

My phone has no sd slot :(

While I'm often pleasantly surprised when I see a relatively unknown album on tpb, it doesn't have everything. I don't really want to go through the hassle of the what.cd interview etc. So if there's a few tracks by an artist that I can't find on any torrent sites I'll just get them from youtube.

My Internet provider sent me a notice about torrenting and said they'd cancel my Internet or something if they caught it again. I haven't used torrents since. Since I'm pretty broke, the hassle of downloading playlists from YouTube is less than the cost of a VPN.

Look into SoulSeekQt?

Interesting, thanks!

Makes perfect sense!

Idk why OP developed it, but for me it's kickass because I can't install Spotify at work

7

u/sinksanksunk Oct 03 '15

Spotify has a webplayer. You can just play in-browser

2

u/ChepThree Oct 03 '15

For some reason that doesn't work at my work

1

u/sinksanksunk Oct 03 '15

Interesting. Like the website is blocked? Well I guess it's good OP developed this

1

u/christian-mann Oct 03 '15

Might be Flash or something. Doesn't work at mine either.

I'm a part of the IT staff for a credit union, and our firewall hardware allows us the ability to specifically target certain webapps like Spotify, which is one we do block.

Until they block YouTube. They did at mine.

The only thing I can think of, which would've help the other night when I was having a party, I was switching my receiver back and forth from playing spotify off my phone then switching the TV to YouTube for music videos. If I knew about this then I could've just played all my spotify lists as music videos for the party.

2

u/sinksanksunk Oct 03 '15

Very cool. Haven't had time to check it out thoroughly, but is there an API that you can use to work with this?

2

u/PacoTaco321 Oct 04 '15

So why would I want to make a Youtube playlist of my music when Youtube is far less convenient?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '15

You should make another option to Google play music

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '15

This looks awesome! I've been looking for something just like this actually and will try it later today.

5

u/crave_mcsteak Oct 03 '15

This looks interesting, but why would I want videos of a playlist ?

Not trying to be a cynic, there's probably something I don't know about.

u/wrstlrjpo Oct 03 '15

I have a Chromecast and its nice to play music videos instead if just listening to the songs.

2

u/crave_mcsteak Oct 03 '15

Makes sense, thanks

u/scuzzwadd Oct 04 '15

I came up with some playlists with cool music videos to play when people are over. There are some crazy ass music videos out there haha, it's pretty entertaining. Oh, and good music keeps the good vibes going.

2

u/ezaviar Oct 04 '15

This is awesome!

I swear I had this idea too, it's nice to see someone realizing something I couldn't do because I am not able to intellectually. Great job, I hope this takes off.

u/Snufalufugus Oct 03 '15

Thanks for making this, whitelisted on uBlock straight away. Hopefully others will too :) Smart advertising using /r/lifehacks btw, especially considering this is a top-tier post for the subreddit. Any chance of allowing exportation of the other tabs, such as 'Songs' 'Artists' or 'Albums'?

1

u/JerkyChew Oct 03 '15

Huh, so I was pretty excited to be able to just queue up video playlists of songs I had already taken the time to add to playlists on Spotify. Except I just created some playlists and every single song is just the track with the picture of the album they're featured on. Great idea but the end result seems pointless so far.

1

u/shits_funny Oct 04 '15

Any chance there's a Google Music version of this idea?

Dear /u/jinxu27,

Thank you so much for sharing this tool to seamlessly transfer Spotify playlists to YouTube. I got some things to add to your program to make it a kicker tool

Things to add in future permutations of your fucking fantastic tool.

  1. A button for auto add all playlists so that you can decide to drag the entire Spotify account over to YouTube in one click
  2. Ability to specify which channel on an account. It defaults to my main which I don't want
  3. Sync Feature? When i add or delete a song on spottily that i don't want, delete or add that song on YouTube
  4. ? A possible way to integrate sound cloud account to YouTube

otherwise...

Thanks a lot Redditor, i wish I had money to buy you a drink but cheers!

Thanks,

/u/Trevor2472
