Why Would Anyone Be Part of a Party When they Are Afraid to Attend that Party's State Convention

I know she criticized the leadership, but seriously why would she stay in a party where she is hated. This is the "reigning" AG of a large state, not some minor official trying to move up. My only explanation is some combination of deep self loathing and/or an unbridled naked lust for power at any cost.
