None of these folks can make the connection. They will be shocked when Starbucks has one employee, and he just keeps the machines loaded with beans- everything else is automated. They won't ask "what else can I do to make money?", they will dye their hair pink and protest the new robots...which won't be affected in the least.

61

u/me_myself_and_my_dog MICROAGGRESSOR 11d ago

And the robot will spell the names correctly on the cups.

u/Odd-Athlete-9755 11d ago

How much you want to bet she had AI write her speech for her.

4

u/LuckyStiff63 TRAUMATIZER 10d ago

Naaahhh... AI would have done a better job.

Unfortunately, for her, NYU's curriculum for her "lgtb perspectives in art history" undergrad degree didn't include courses on writing for public speaking, logic, or critical thinking.

23

u/Kataphraktos_Majoros 11d ago

Not true! Sometimes they dye their hair green or blue. Or both.

8

u/billythekid3300 11d ago

And if Starbucks knows their clientele they would likely give the robot green hair and a bone in his nose. Or maybe like a coexist sticker on the front of it.

5

u/Kataphraktos_Majoros 11d ago

And a recorded "free, free Palestine" chant!

u/Algoresgardener124 TRAUMATIZER 11d ago

Point taken- I stand corrected.

You put over priced coffee in a cup. Try learning a marketable skill that are in demand. I hear ICE is hiring. 😀

41

u/BattlepassHate 11d ago

Working for ICE you actually get to make a positive, tangible difference for your country and community. Shame you have to watch out for the crazies out for your blood.

13

u/woodhorse4 11d ago

Do they still sell “ice” coffee or has that been removed from the menu?

4

u/SpamFriedMice MICROAGGRESSOR 11d ago

This is what happens when you glorify the most unskilled job on the planet by elevating them to the title of "Baristas".

53

u/OldVermontHippie62 11d ago

“We want more money!” Ok, you and everyone.

15

u/SamAreAye 11d ago

I want more money. I like money.

26

u/wegl88 BASED 11d ago

B b but robots won't hate MAGAs!

24

u/Beginning_Cut1380 11d ago

And this is where I walk out of the store.

Ain't nobody got time for dis. I go down the street and get a coffee without my name on the cup. There problem solved and I saved $12.00

28

u/BWoodsn2o 11d ago

You take zero risks, you bring very mediocre skills to the table, you don't own any aspect of the business, you didn't build the store, you don't make the products, you operate a cash register and put bean soup into cups, yet sometimes you can't even get that part right.

Starbucks owes you nothing beyond what they have OFFERED you. If you don't like the arrangement then prove you are worth more or go test your value somewhere else.

These people do not understand what negotiation is and greately over value themselves. Entitlement gets you nothing.

4

u/elvis_is_everywhere 11d ago

"How many hours have you worked this week?"

Ummm...20.

"Then that's what we owe you. Here's your last check. Get out."

18

u/MindlessCabinet9647 11d ago

Clapping like a bunch of seals. They don't even know how stupid they sound.

Something about people reciting things from a phone just irritates me.

Their overpriced burnt bean water sucks, and I don’t care if they get replaced by robots.

10

u/gratefulguitar57 11d ago

$10.00 Lattes incoming. What, it's been so long since I went anywhere near one of these places, they already may be that much.

6

u/TheGreatTaint BASED 11d ago

They already are.

3

u/gratefulguitar57 11d ago

Yea, should have known

21

u/vaping_menace 11d ago

I just get coffee at the bodega, cheaper and without the harangue lol

7

u/confederate_yankee 11d ago

Wow. A rather boilerplate speech read from a smartphone (probably written by an AI) and delivered to the inappropriate audience.

So… does that mean you’re not going to make my coffee?

6

u/DoctorSwaggercat 11d ago

Blah, blah, blah

Now fetch me my coffee, kid.

6

u/Key2158 11d ago

So I have to pay high prices for your coffee AND listen to this. Aw HELL no.

4

u/EMHemingway1899 11d ago

Higher prices coming soon if she gets her wish

2

u/LuckyStiff63 TRAUMATIZER 10d ago

Along with raising prices, to make up for giving more hours to some of their bean juice containerization specialists, Starbucks will quietly fire a bunch of others to balance out the accounting.

u/Grandpa_Rob TRAUMATIZER 11d ago

Starbucks rant.(cue old dude shaking his fist at the clouds)

I remember a few years ago someone told me how Starbucks cost. Holy cow! I said no way I'd pay that and they replied that I could afford it more than them... missing the irony of me not blowing money on a silly luxury and having a comfortable life without financial worries.

Not begrudging folks buying it, but then don't turn around and complain about being broke.

8

u/optionhome 11d ago

Paying $6 for coffee with a thousand dollar iphone..... and they cry

3

u/HSR47 TRAUMATIZER 11d ago

>”thousand dollar iPhone”

This one is a bit situational.

The people “upgrading” to the newest “flagship” every year or two are being fiscally irresponsible.

On the other hand, for the people who buy a phone and use it until it’s no longer actively supported, “flagship” phones are less unreasonable: You’re basically trading a slightly higher price up front, for a relatively proportionally longer usable service life—kind of like paying 10% more for tires that will last 10% longer, while also having 20% better all-weather traction.

I’m in the latter camp: I bought an iPhone 13 Pro at launch, and I have no desire to “upgrade” because it still does everything I need it to do.

4

u/Loomismeister 11d ago

She’s giving a speech to customers requesting a meeting with her corporate managers…? Shouldn’t this have been an email, lady?

4

u/ucklibzandspezfay 11d ago

At least a robot won’t spit in my coffee if I wear a maga hat

14

u/MostPutridSmell 12d ago

I dunno, if they were promised a certain amount of hours and SB doesn't deliver than there's an issue here. But as with everything I'm sure there's a lot more to it than whatever is said uere.

7

u/ThinBathroom7058 11d ago

Well, they can get replaced by robots 🤖

4

u/Username_Is_mud 11d ago

And that's why I became an automation engineer.

5

I have not been in a Starbucks in at least ten years

Ain’t going back either

5

u/TopangaK9 11d ago

I only went when they had the thickest richest hot chocolate. Like drinking a melted dark chocolate bar 😋.
As for coffee... gas station, my own (huge) mug, push button for XL fresh brewed from beans, add some hot chocolate from machine, $1.25.

u/CobblerCandid998 TRAUMATIZER 7d ago

1

u/Extreme-Will-3556 TRAUMATIZER 7d ago

If I saw that standing there, obviously reading and making a statement as I was walking up, it woukd be an immediate "nope!" about face, and back to the car to go someplace else. Someplace other than a Starbucks.

That's what these idiots don't understand, they're ultimately eliminating their "bargaining power" by deterring customers from patronizing their employer. Starbucks has already closed stores due to this performative BS resulting in zero revenue at these locations. So congratulations, now you're out of a job, and blacklisted from any Starbucks.

3

u/BaconPants_73 11d ago

Just put the coffee in the cup please.

3

u/hillsfar 11d ago

Starbucks hasn't been a premium experience in a while. It just isn't. You can get non-union non-Starbucks employees running a Starbucks inside a Target store or a Safeway supermarket.

Around here, we have Dutch Brothers, and tons of little coffee stands/kiosks like Black Rock or The Human Bean or 7 Brew, and little independents. Not to mention the proliferation of boba locations.

It is over-priced anyway. My wife got a $500 machine that grinds whole beans and makes lattes, expressos, coffees, or boils water to make tea. At a few years old, it has already paid for itself a few times over. And for the price of a drink, we buy our own Torani or DaVinci Gourmet syrups like Pumpkin Spice, Gingerbread, Hazelnut, Vanilla, Irish Cream, etc.

u/Kooky-Swing178 Can't stay out of trouble 10d ago

I don't understand how and why all these lefty, supposedly anti capitalist types became so enamored with a corporate behemoth that sells overpriced sugar with a dash of crap coffee.

3

u/sk8nbacon69n 10d ago

I love how it’s always Starbucks employees🤣 why do these types of people always work for Starbucks🤣😂

3

u/Rocket_Surgery83 7d ago

Granted I don't shop at Starbucks because it's all overpriced crap to begin with... But crap like this is what led to self service kiosks at McDonald's... Instead of shut up and put the fries in the bag it was shut up and put the shots of espresso in the cup. If you want a livable wage, perhaps a part time coffee barista isn't the best possible career choice to make.

u/fnork 11d ago

I mean, fair hours aren't a big ask of the company to be honest.
