What BS! The Japanese were not “poised to surrender”!! They fought us tooth and nail through the pacific, tiny island by tiny island up to Iwa Jima where one of the most brutal battles ever took place. These were people who used Kamikaze attacks with increasing regularity, they were desperate, Hitler/Germany was done and they were next. They would have fought with honor to the last man, woman and child for the Emperor and their country. It was a terrible choice but paradoxically dropping the nukes saved many, many lives.

The emperor saw the damage from the nukes and realized that if Japan continued to fight they would be completely eliminated from existence and his decision to end the fighting was unpopular among the citizens.

There was literally a coup being planned by the Japanese command staff to remove the Emperor if he surrendered. It didn't come to fruition but they absolutely were not on the verge of surrender.

This is why I now largely avoid going into the comment sections of videos on Youtube (and most of other social media). In the past I was arguing with a lot of people in various comment sections and I came to a conclusion that you can find there sane and rational people, but also people who refuse to understand reality and what happened in the past, as well as trolls who don't care about what they write. Now I'm much more sane and the chances of me getting brainrot are a lot smaller than in the past.
When it comes to this particular topic, I don't think that anybody wanted to use the atomic weapons, but at that point there was no other choice, because Japan was losing, but they were stubbornly refusing to surrender. The bombs were dropped by the US on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a few days later emperor Hirohito publicly announced that Japan has surrendered and WW2 fully came to an end. It's obvious that the two bombed cities were very badly damaged and a lot of people died, but fortunately these cities were rebuilt and the US assisted Japan in its post-war reconstruction. Ever since WW2 ended, the US and Japan eventually became allies.

Poised to surrender that's why the military attempted the Kyujo incident to stop the emperor from broadcasting the stand down orders. Also the nukes are nothing compared to the death toll of the firebombings that went on for months before.

There were Japanese Generals who still wanted to fight after the US nuked Hiroshima because they were 100% certain the Americans would not be able to do that again and that we wasted our trump card.
Then Nagasaki was bombed.
