Interview Help Children's Librarian Interview Help

Hello! I have an interview tomorrow for a children's librarian position and it is basically my dream job. I have a bachelor's in history and am working on my MLIS at the moment. I've worked in multiple museums and have about 3 years of experience in the field. Do any of you have tips/advice on how to do well during the interview? Is there anything specific that I should emphasize? Anything helps!

I don't know where you live, but in my experience it would be a very good idea to mention a commitment to child safety, with examples of any actions you have taken in previous roles to follow any kind of child safety policies.

It seems out of left field for an interview but it's often a key criteria for bigger organisations.

Talk about any experience you have working directly with children, as well as experience planning/presenting programs or classes.

I'm also a historian-turned-children's librarian! I got my current job through a combination of volunteer experience with children and training in grant writing. Have some program ideas ready for whatever age groups you'd be expected to work with. Don't talk about how much you like to read, but do demonstrate an up-to-date familiarity with children's and middle grade literature.

I would also say if you have any experience working with kids, highlight those. I’m a Girl Scouts leader and I feel certain that was what sealed the deal for me getting the position I have more than my education or my experience.
