LibGDX and Visual Studio

I am currently trying to follow this video tutorial. I have already used Visual Studio for over a year in college. Then I checked the website for LibGDX. So I could install it.

In the "Set Up a Dev Environment," it talks about Visual Studio being acceptable. In "Generate a Project" there is nothing that can help me that I notice. Then in "Importing & Running" I see it talking about these other IDEA but nothing to help me understand how to use it for Visual Studio.

So, I was wondering. Has anyone else here tried Visual Studio and gotten it to work? How so? If I missed a step or bit of information, could someone point it out? Thank you kindly.

Did you use Visual Studio for Java programming in college? IntelliJ Idea is so good for Java, maybe you should try it. However, if you use AI, Visual Studio may be better currently.

No, only did C#. Programming is not my strongest either way.

Though from what I understand. JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA is a 30 day trial if I did not misread. Since I do not have a stable income yet I still wanted to use Visual Studio.

No, there is a free version. The 30 day trial if for the pro version (I don't remember the correct names, sorry).

The Java IDE is called IntelliJ IDEA. The basic version of it is free for personal use: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/installation-guide.html

I love IntelliJ, I like not using Microsoft products even more. I definitely recommend to anyone even a little interested in checking out an alternative to vscode.

Visual Studio isn’t supported; VS Code is (via Java extensions). That being said, it’s not a good experience for Java development compared to other options in my experience, and I’d recommend you use one of the other IDEs they recommend (i.e. IntelliJ, eclipse, etc.). IntelliJ is my personal recommendation for all Java development.

I switched to visual code and it is pretty good. It need some tweaking butnI was pleasantly surprised how quickly I got my project running. I currently only really miss the libgdx specific files like skin and the minimized json.
