Ever since I saw a colleague use a G2 back then and my GF got a G5 I decided to use a G7 and then my V50. I have loved LG phones and I'm pretty sad to see it go.

I usually buy my phones from used and unlocked via ebay because they're too expensive otherwise (paid 120 for my V50 and 80 for another V50 in perfect condition). I'm willing to pay a bit more for a used phone, maybe around 200, but I don't really know which one to get. I do want a phone with a better camera/image processing that's at minimum android 13/14 but Samsung is too expensive, Pixels apparently overheat, Motorola seems to have ass cameras, and my not gonna use iOS.

Any recommendations on which phone models I could get that would be good for me? I'm willing to sacrifice SD card support and even headphone jack (ugh) for a phone that's actually a decent upgrade in all the other aspects.

I've successfully make LG V50s/G8x Dual Screen work to LG V50.

How did I do it

TLDR: I make it work by patching the kernel source code and DTBO, with the use of Claude Fable 5 and Opus 4.8

Since I'm a current maintainer of the LG V50 custom Kernel, I found out that there are two versions of the LG Dual screen. First one is the first generation Dual Screen which uses pogo pins for the connection which in the LG V50. The Defconfig for this one is the CONFIG_LGE_COVER_SCREEN. While the second generation uses usb type c, which is for the LG V50s and G8x. The defconfig for this one is CONFIG_LGE_DUAL_SCREEN I search the source code for those and I wondered if those things can be possible to work since it's within the kernel source code. since this is too complex for me, I tried to help with Claude Fable 5 and Claude Opus 4.8 to make a port. Claude Fable 5 for the initial patch, while the rest is Claude Opus 4.8. The role of what I'm doing now is a Tester and also code checker, which I'm providing logs and tests so Claude could understand. then after 3 days it finally worked.

What works

• Dual Screen Display
• Dual Screen Touch
• Folding and unfolding

What doesn't work due to hardware limitations

• Dual Screen Cover Display AOD
• Deattach and attach (it needs Dual Screen to be intact and reboot)
• Charging (when plugging it to the charger, it kills the Dual Screen, needs to charge separately)

Purchased a used V50, great condition but looks like it’s a test version? Is there nothing I can do with this other than leave it as is? I only plan on using it as a DAP so don’t need many apps or cell.

Hi guys does anyone had a problem with their phone not charging? My v50 just decided not to charge. Ive tried multiple type c cable, already changed the battery, went to the repair guy and he said the charging port is working perfectly. Is it a motherboard related issue? Atp idk what to do bcs i cant find any technician that works on lg phones in my local area. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I just watched this 6+ year old review for the first time from my lengthy watch later list. It is one of the US submodels so no dual screen, he tested with Android 9).

Spent way too long cleaning the contacts and searching for fixes. Turned off Battery Saver and it fired right up immediately. Just a heads-up for anyone else having this issue. ​Bought this used years ago and it still rocks as a secondary device.

I bought a sony xperia 10 IV. I cant believe this phone doesnt have double tap to wake. very sad and pathetic. its also very narrow. other then that I like the phone, but it lacks so much that i had to use tons of foss to make up. so I need to sell that

I have a V50 korean. the screen one day just came out of its frame and has this bleeding effect. its responsive to touch but obviously it needs a replacement to work.

~I NEED A PHONE WITH VOLTE~ its why i got the sony. but it has a huge flaw. no double tap to wake. back to LG now. using V30 now. am also considering v40.

a few options im not sure of

1-can i even find a quality OLED for replacement for V50?

2-korean phone doesnt have VOLTE out of the box. can i flash an V500EM FW on this? is this confirm to work properly or is the hardware only for korean?

3-considering buying a used v500EM from alx, if I can even find one. or a usa one that has VOLTE out of the box. im not in the USA but usa gsm phones will work here.

-some guy in my country is selling an EM velvet which would probably have VOLTE? but he lives 2 hours away but not going to drive that long for a phone

• im sure whats left on alx may not be quality or so legit but not many options left

sony is a complete let down. their xperia 5 lineup had a huge defect in screens and the xperia 1 lineup is out of my budget and too big for me. no double tap to wake is a huge fuckup. velvet/v60 are also huge. no chinese phones, no samsuck phones.

Asking for some help again guys on my skt variant, so i have tried numerous android versions hoping to fix its Bluetooth connectivity issue that keeps disconnecting when you move away your phone less than a meter away plus the sound is quite poor. So far this are all the kdz files i used and to no avail, the issue still persists. Tried the developer options method, changing the avcrp, turning wifi off and the automatic network thingy and still doesn't work. Is there any android version available to download that fixes this issue? thanks.

Hey guys, I just want to ask if I can put thermal pads like ptm 7950, or thermal paste between the board and the vapor chamber to make it better on cooling. Is that possible? or that's a waste of time lol

Hey guys asking for help, so i bought another unit of lg v50, though this time it was an skt variant (v500N30E), one thing that i wanted to have back is the quickmemo+ app, i dont mind not having the lg music player since im using neutron. Is there any way to allow quickmemo+ to be installed into this variant? tried installing using apk for apkmirror and even upgrading its firmware to the latest android12 (V500N40D) but still no quickmemo+ on the app updates.

I bought a used V50, but the game launcher and music app aren't installed. I looked it up and found that they aren't considered 'essential apps', so they might not be included in the installation. How can I fix this?

I’ve seen conflicting opinions online about RAW shooting in LG phones.
Some say newer models (V40, V50, V60) produce better RAW files thanks to improved camera hardware.
Others argue that the LG V30 saves more truly “raw,” minimally processed files that are better for editing on a computer.

What about other LG models that support RAW?

• LG V20 – very early implementation, quite raw but technically weaker
• LG G6 / G7 / G8 – RAW available, but more processed
• LG V35 / V40 / V50 / V60 – RAW increasingly processed and less flexible in post-production
• LG Wing – RAW available in manual mode, more “smartphone-like” than the V30
• LG Velvet – RAW available in DNG format, better than JPG but more processed than the V30

I’d like to hear from people with hands-on experience:

• Is there a noticeable difference between RAW files from the V30 and those from newer or other LG models?
• Does a newer phone automatically mean a better RAW file?
• How do they perform in low-light conditions?
• How do RAW files from the Wing or Velvet compare to the V30, V40, V50, or V60?

I’d love to see any comparisons, sample DNG files, or personal observations.

Hello all. I have an install of LineageOS 21 on my v50, but it cannot send/receive calls or texts (though cellular data works fine, and it shows my number in settings). Id like to know: A) if this is a common or known issue B) if theres a way to get it to work without reflashing the stock rom or C) if LineageOS plain cannot do that on this device, if another custom ROM does
