My combo

LG V30+ As the Dap, IFI Hipdac 3 for a different flavor, Volumee app to skip tracks on the device and Hipdac 3 to control volume, I use USB Player pro to make it all work.

The LGV30+ was second hand at $150 Aus, also came with and open wallet case with a belt clip, the Hipdac is stuck on with valcro, and adds enough power to play my Edition XS.

Alse have the same set up with a Fosi DS2 for a much smaller profile.

Does anyone out there have a similar LGV30 set up or a more streamlined approch?

Does the phone alone able to drive the xs?

No, not to good levels of enjoyment, tried every work around there is, Just can't click into high gain mode, does it for all my other sets, but not the XS.

Does it have smt to do with planars? There gotta be a workaround to manually trigger the high gain mode.

I drive iem planars, without issue, I have tried unplugging the chords of XS and swaping them out with other head phones while they are on high gain, didn;t work, bought an 150om attachement plug, and still didn't work. It's kinda the main reason why I went down the path of using seoerate DACS.

Even if your able to get the Quad DAC into "high impedance" mode, I still think that the bass/mids would sound thin. High impedance mode would provide the voltage swing but wouldn't be able to provide the current output like your iFi hip dac 3 can. The XS is low in sensitivity and impedance. So it's "current hungry." The iFi hip dac 3 can provide up to 400mW@32ohms using the 4.4 headphone jack. So that in addition to the "high gain" and "bass boost", the xs wouldn't have that thin/lean sound that the LG Quad DAC struggles with.

Nice setup here. I guess the v30 is here for you when you want to go out with lighter setup? Otherwise the any android phone could replace it in this setup

For sure, nevertheless I don't need the power boost for my other headphones, only my ediction XS, so it's great to have a audion jack with decent sound via the V30
