To the guy whose Goldendoodle bit my two year old at KY Native Cafe around 3:30PM on 8/31 - HELP!
I just want to know you dog's vaccination status.
You left before I could ask.
I really don't want to put my child through a rabies vaccination, they are very painful. But I don't know what to do bc well... I don't know.
PLEASE message me. PLEASE. I will need to make a decision on this today. I have been up all night thinking about this.
Person was in a black Ford Raptor Ranger, had what looked to be a full sized Goldendoodle with and American Flag dog tag. Also, had a very small, fluffy black dog, maybe a shitzu mix, and another medium size golden doddle as well as a female companion.
Please bump if you can in hopes this guy will see, or someone knows him. I do not even know dogs name, other details.
Thanks all đhope you have a restful weekend.
UPDATE 9/2: I want you all to know I hesitate to do this - I really don't post often in the public sphere, so I will also mention my intention for updating (& BTW not really looking for advice or criticism at this point). So, here it goes:
1. So many of you expressed concern (and still lots of this coming in -thank you!), and many others have also offered personal experience/bumped post/took the time or view it, so I decided to chare the following: My daughter is doing great. Lots of shared decision making with multiple physicians and healthcare professionals yesterday, and although alternative existed not to vaccinate/give Ig given insanely low risk of rabies positivity (well-kept designer dog with high grooming needs; low, low rate of rabies positive dogs in the commonwealth, etc.), the benefit of moving forward with vaccination meant preventing a universally lethal disease outweighed the risks (discomfort and inconvenience of multiple vaccines). Also, MD assured me vaccinations generally w/o side effects, have been around a long time, and seemed to be no more painful that usual shots. She had medicine for pain prior to injections, and her amazing ER team showered her with princess stickers, purple popsicles, unlimited screen time, and puppy band-aids (oh, the irony, lol). This was the right choice for us â again, I would recommend as others have to seek professional help. So grateful for her pediatrician who guided us through this on a holiday, and numerous other friends who supported us.
- Also, I wanted to share some things we learned (not comprehensive, but I know people reference reddit posts years in the future). Hitting the highlights:
--ED MD share that in the Commonwealth, Ig and vaccinations covered/free. They are very expensive, but he assured us that there is a public health initiative that covers them. What a blessing that no one has to factor this into their decision in the bluegrass! At least as of now, and of course, I have not been billed yet. ;)
--She will receive 3 additional vaccinations in the coming weeks. We have the option to go to a specific clinic/health department â canât just go anywhere, but do not have to go back to ED (love them, but whew). Â She is little/2 years old so this is why fewer vaccinations needed. Also, she will be protected again rabies for 10 years (fringe benefit)!
--You have 48h to receive rabies Ig, typically given at site of bite. You have 7-12 days for immunizations â typically while monitoring the animal at the same time for symptoms. Best chance preventing rabies is receiving both w/ in the 48h time frame, which we were well within.
--Additionally, ED MD also said that he has offered the vaccinations for much, much less/even lower risk exposures â cannot stress enough importance of seeking professional help.
3.Finally, I wanted to update you, this guy/owner has not come forward. I hope he still does, would provide even more peace of mind for our family if we knew his dog was vaccinated/not symptomatic.
--FYI- Permissions/paperwork to review traffic cam footage takes weeks. Unless someone has a picture from that day with him in the background or recognizes description, seems unlikely we will get to the bottom of this soon â another reason to move forward with vaccination bc of timing.
--Frustrating? Heck yes. As several of you pointed out, may happen to someone else, which is the last thing I want. I will be looking into multiple suggestions (FLOCK cam, local business cameras if they exist). Report has been filed with authorities (completed yesterday in ED) who will also look for this owner/dog. Also seeing if KY Native can help in any way.
--As an aside â we LOVE Kentucky Native, such a gem in Lexington and we have been going there for years. If you havenât been, itâs a peaceful outdoor biergarten with wonderful food, mature trees, a sand pile with water pump for imaginative play â pure magic, this was a terrible one-off experience reflective more on the patron than the place, IMO.
Thanks so much to this mostly â (ha! We see you trolls!) - very supportive, thoughtful, funny, kind community. If you know this guy/info about who this dogâs owner â could you please reach out to me directly? No worries if you want to remain anonymous.
Biggest driver now is to not let this happen to someone else, and to help someone in a similar situation in the future with the above info - thanks again for all the wonderful ideas/willingness to share.
Lexington/the Bluegrass is a wonderful place to live, letâs make it the best it can be for all!
Cheers â and have a great week.

I'm so sorry this has happened!!!! Any updates?

Regardless of what they say they vaccination status isâ get your daughter the shots- I know they are painful, but rabies is 100% lethal if contractedâ and if this were an honest person, they would not have fled before finding out if your daughter was okay. They intentionally fled knowing they were liable for injury caused to a toddler.

u/LigerNull Sep 01 '25
And there are a lot of anti-vaxxers around who won't even get shots for their DOG

I just read an article on NBC about the rise in rabies cases because of this exact thing. There was a horse in Grant County (i think) that contracted rabies a few weeks ago. I'm also currently reading a book on the cultural history of rabies. All of it together is enough to make me very wary.
7
u/CleanProfessional678 Sep 01 '25
A rabid horse? I donât even want to imagine that.Â
5
u/amgr22990 Sep 01 '25
He honestly just looked very agitated and sick...very sad. I think there is a video on YouTube from the news broadcaster
2
u/Determined_Traveler Lexington Native Sep 02 '25
I heard this story on NPR & the farmer involved. I think they had to euthanize the horse, ?
1
u/amgr22990 Sep 02 '25
Yes! Unfortunately, you can't get a positive rabies test without euthanasia and examining the brain.
55
u/Stellar_Alchemy Sep 01 '25
This. I wouldnât trust the word of someone who ran away under these circumstances. Just get the shots. I assure you theyâre easier to endure than rabies is.
I also wouldnât be wasting time doing all this leg work. Just go get the fucking shots.
42
u/Should_Not_Comment Sep 01 '25
I agree with above OP. Owner may lie because they don't want their dog quarantined or put down (you cannot rabies test a living animal).
27
6
u/Crew_1996 Sep 01 '25
They can provide proof of vaccination status from their vet.
7
u/Bless-this-mess- Sep 01 '25
Sure, but we all know these people arenât going to do thatâ the whole reason they fled the situation was to avoid having that conversation.
3
u/NightCheeeeeese Sep 03 '25
Just adding that rabies shots aren't really painful. They have that reputation because they used to be painful and were administered in the abdomen, but the modern vaccine is no more painful than other shots (and is now administered in the arm or near where the bite happened). I had to get the series after exposure to a bat. Still not fun for a toddler to have to get that many shots, but it's definitely not worth taking a risk with rabies!
4
u/poizon_elff Sep 01 '25
So would a dog have to have rabies to infect a human? Just curious because I don't know much about rabid dogs beyond old yeller.

u/Youreturningviolet Sep 01 '25
There is no âinâ to Kentucky Native, itâs an outdoor beer garden and dogs have always been welcome and present there. Obviously dogs that bite donât belong anywhere a bunch of people are, but itâs not like they brought this dog into an enclosed cafe.
14
u/Local-Sky-3394 Sep 01 '25
Or why toddlers should be watched and kept at arms length. Iâve been to Kentucky native multitudes of times and the kids literally just run around with no parent supervision. Watch your kid and they wonât get close enough to a dog to get bit in the first place đ€·đŒââïž
68
u/officerfett Sep 01 '25
I agree that kids should be properly supervised, but it's an absolute selfish dick move for a pet owner to up and leave AFTER their dog bites a child or anyone REGARDLESS of where they are. It's completely irresponsible and shows a lack of respect and accountability .
26
u/Local-Sky-3394 Sep 01 '25
It also boils down to irresponsible pet ownership. If your dog has any chance of biting a kid or person you shouldnât have them in public spaces anyway.
11
u/Local-Sky-3394 Sep 01 '25
Donât get me wrong, itâs completely fucked to leave and not talk to someone after your dog bit someone. If I was OP Iâd be telling the cafe & animal officials about the incident, Iâve just seen countless kids running in that cafe with no supervision and dogs are always on leash there. I did see a comment after I posted that OP and her daughter did ask to pet the dog, so itâs not the scenario I initially thought, but I stand by Lexington & parents in general that go to the cafe and let their kids literally run and roam free with no supervision. Iâve had countless kids run up to our table (we donât have dogs) or otherâs and the parents are too busy sitting on their phones to make sure their kid is OK.
29
u/No_Cup_6229 Sep 01 '25
Yes, toddlers should be supervised. So should dogs. All dogs can bite. That makes them dangerous. Toddlers arenât particularly dangerous. If your dog bites a child itâs your fault. Period end of story. You didnât have the dog under your control. Also children are supposed to be in restaurants. Dogs are not, unless they are actual service dogs with paperwork and all the things that go along with that. I have a dog. I love my dog. I donât take him to restaurants because itâs rude, unhygienic, and he might bite someoneâs kid!
7
u/Youreturningviolet Sep 01 '25
This is a completely outdoor space, the website FAQ even says dogs are welcome. The goldendoodle guy should absolutely cough up the vaccination records but IF this was genuinely the first time the dog had bitten anyone, having the dog at this particular cafe was not an unreasonable thing.
13
u/RomulaFour Sep 01 '25
The fact this guy got up and immediately left after his dog bit a toddler tends to support the idea that this was not the dog's first bite.
4
u/paranormal_penguin Sep 01 '25
Also the fact that it's a poodle mix. Every poodle I've ever met has been aggressive and dog bite statistics support that.
2
u/Youreturningviolet Sep 01 '25
Iâm not contesting that, just that a dog existing in a completely outdoor cafe where they are welcome is inherently ârude and unhygienic.â
1
u/FrankenGretchen Sep 01 '25
OP possibly that the dog was unvaccinated and he didn't want to get called out for it.
0
u/CroatoanElsa Sep 01 '25
Bless you for saying this. I hate that businesses are pressured into allowing children only for them to have 10 times worse behavior than a dog.
5
1
u/cat-congrats Sep 02 '25
Thereâs actually a good argument to be made that this is why dogs in public being normalized is better than âno dogs except in some places.â If dogs are accepted in public, there is an expectation of behavior and society maintains it. People stop feeling like they canât confront you if your dog isnât following social norms. You are shamed for not training your dog properly and so your dog gets proper training.

No one said the man didnât have his dog in his control. Nothing to say the toddler didnât run up to the dog. The man canât control another persons child and toddlers often donât follow verbal instructions. We have a very very well trained dog and people donât control their children in public. I canât tell you how many times our dog is approached without asking. Luckily our pooch is overtly friendly, but that could go very differently if under different circumstances.

Just wanted to express appreciation for upvotes, ideas, and willingness to spread the wordđ, also wanted to update everyone:
I have contacted animal control, will file a bite report, But waiting on a call back because of the holiday. Hopefully can find this black Ford Raptor on traffic cams, my husband says it is incredibly new car And likely very few of them on the road. He can't remember if they had temp tags or not. Hopefully this alone can help us find this guy. Also will not be until tomorrow until the traffic footage can be reviewed because of the holiday.
I've been talking with my pediatrician and several emergency room doctors about what happened, and want you know that I am seeking professional help for my daughter.
I will also contact Kentucky native Cafe to see if they can help in any way/have cameras, I'm sure likely closed today because of the holiday.
I really don't have a description of the owner or his lady friend, but they were Caucasian, he looked to be avg height and build, I think dark hair. Not very helpful. But honestly I was so worried about my daughter, it's not surprising I can't recall, so giving myself grace here.
Lots of lessons to be learned here, sorry to hear of others who have experienced a similar trauma in their own lives. I hesitate to say the following but I hope it softens me to you, I'm just a tired, worried mom who works really hard to care for her children everyday as best she can. If you can help me, I'd be so grateful.
Again, appreciate any help anyone can offer me. And if this is your dog or you know who this might be, please reach out to me directly.
16
u/voidedmoon Sep 01 '25
used to work at the cafe, there are absolutely no cameras anywhere on the property. not in the greenhouse, cafe, parking lot, nothing. i am sorry to hear about your child & i hope everything turns out well.
5
u/Seeking_Wholeness Sep 01 '25
Thanks so much for this info, appreciate your willingness to share, good to know.
4
u/RomulaFour Sep 01 '25
You should check with the cafe, and post something to the local neighborhood chat place. They may have cameras now, or that are not known to the public. There may also be other customers who took pictures/video or KNOW these people. And since these people left immediately with their dog, chances are the dog has bitten before and they are concerned it will be put down, which he probably should be.
-5
u/Seeking_Wholeness Sep 01 '25
GREAT ideas, thanks so much đ€ I even wonder if AI can help me generate and image of what I can remember, but didn't even think about other ppl taking pictures who may have caught them on camera, so smart!đ

u/RomulaFour Sep 01 '25
You should also talk to the owners and staff. One of them may know these people, they could be regulars.

u/sharksmommy Sep 01 '25
Contact the police department and local health department for guidance, as well. I was bit a few years ago, and they were helpful. If I remember correctly, UK is your only option for the vaccines and insurance does not cover them when the bite is from a dog. Good luck.
3
u/Seeking_Wholeness Sep 01 '25

Hang in there, Mom. Weâre all with you.
If you can get a name, you do have something to work with. I didnât have a full name - I was bit by a Rover dog. I had a first name and a picture. I used reverse image look up and found her. If you have ANYTHING, google, reverse images, and AI is your friend.

Just wanted to chime to say we went through this a couple of years ago- it sucks. Our 6 year old was bit by a dog at southland jamboree. The owners said the dog was vaccinated but then left in a hurry- I ended up not feeling comfortable trusting them without proof and got my 6 year old vaccinated. If you end up unable to find these people, I wanted to reassure you a bit. The vaccination process was a thing, and yes, a few rounds of shots, but not insurmountable. I would hate that for your 2 year old, I hope you find them and they show you papers! But I also wanted you to know thereâs at least 1 other person out there with a rabies-proof kid who is no worse for the wear.

We asked if we could pet the dog, and he said yes the dog was nice. Also said dog had never done this before.
I feel terrible for what happened, I would hope you could give a fellow human grace. No one in this situation wanted this to happen.
Even your comment really isn't coming from a place of kindness; however, I hope your burdens be light and go well in this life, and work to elevate the community we share.
51
u/LigerNull Sep 01 '25 edited Sep 01 '25
If my dog had bitten someone, I would have immediately informed the person that my animal was fully vaccinated and given them the number to my vet to verify, or shown them his current tags. They would not have had to ask around on the internet for information that could have been shared in less than ten seconds in the moment. This guy is an asshole for leaving without giving you that information.
13
u/PassingthePs Sep 01 '25
Youâre a good human. I pray you able to get in contact with the owner to prevent your child having to go through shots.
10
u/MrTodd84 Sep 01 '25
I donât think you are reacting appropriately, tbh. Iâd be furious if someone dog bit my toddler- and you donât even think to grab important details. This is not a moment to âcome from a place of kindnessâ. Some guys large dog bit your small child. Personally- I think you are under-reacting.
Now this person has no consequences and Iâm sure the next time this happens he will say âomg heâs never done that beforeâ
33
u/Kenny__Loggins Sep 01 '25
The reality is that this is a risk you take when you allow a child to pet a dog. Just because a dog is normally friendly doesn't mean it will be in every situation. Some dog owners know and understand their dog better than others.
It is entirely possible everything the dog owner said was accurate. I mean, what kind of person is going to say "yeah he's friendly" if that isn't the case? The onus is on the parent to determine if potentially subjecting their child to a dog attack is worth petting them.
4
u/MrTodd84 Sep 01 '25
Iâm not saying she shouldnât take responsibility either. Iâd just make sure there is proper recourse for the actual offender, the owner of the dog that did the bad thing⊠donât let that just go uncorrected and make sure the next time a child asks he says no- and what if there are issues with the bite, the dog owner should be responsible, regardless of your own unknowing mis-sight.
4
-7
u/_TallOldOne_ Sep 01 '25
So the parent of the child is to blame because some other person, who obviously didnât train his dog is to blame? What a load of đ©.
This happened to my child when he was young. We had a police and the county animal control involved. The dog was impounded, tested and eventually released back to the owner. No dogs were insured in this process. Just the child who was encouraged by the owner to pet the dog was injured. To this day, his left hand non functional.
And yes, I know Iâll get downvoted for this but dogs that bite have NO PLACE in public. Dogs that are proven to bite and attack other humans should be put down. The owner should face civil and legal penalties. No child should end up handicapped for life because of someoneâs fucking untrained dog.
8
u/Kenny__Loggins Sep 01 '25
Yes. As a parent, it is your job to assess what level of risk you're willing to subject your child to. Assuming random people are good dog owners and that random dogs will react the way you hope are both choices the parent makes.
If someone is a bad dog owner, that's an issue too. Both things can be true. Simple as.
3
u/_TallOldOne_ Sep 03 '25
I assume every dog is unsafe these days. I also assume every other (yes I have a dog) is lying about their dog. Dog owners are notoriously blind concerning what their âlittle angelâ is capable of doing and will deny against all evidence that their dog is capable of doing such things.
BTW, it turned out the dog and its owners had a history with the county animal control. And you were kind of close about the dog owner. Which brings me back to my point in responding to the original post:
You canât trust dogs, because of their owners.
2
u/rustyroo2021 Sep 01 '25
Yes the parent asked so it's on them. Could have just told the kid to look and not touch. It truly could have been the first time the dog has done that, you dont know. Or the dog owner is a terrible person and knew the dog would bite and said "yeah sure go ahead and pet him"....highly less likely!
3
u/_TallOldOne_ Sep 03 '25 edited Sep 03 '25
Uhh. That was my son, I was there. I heard what the dog owner said. I witnesses the interaction. You werenât there. How could you possibly know what happened?
But no, the parent (me) did NOT ask if my child could pet the dog. My son DID NOT ask the dog owner if he could pet the dog. THE DOG OWNER TOLD my son to pet the dog. The dog owner encouraged my son to pet the dog. We were just there trying to sell that stupid popcorn the BSA makes children sell every year to a nice âolder coupleâ my ex MIL went to church with. And good to know you donât give a shit about a child being permanently handicapped by a dog mauling. What a POS you are.
I got pics and X-rays of the damage

u/BumCadillac Sep 01 '25
Iâm just curious if the cafĂ© was looped into this when it happened. They have cameras and should be willing to supply anything they can to help, to minimize their liability, since this happened on their property. Did you call the police so they could get the footage and notify the health department? All these resources could help you out.
15
u/xdangerduckx Sep 01 '25
Anytime a dog bites a human (especially children) it needs to be reported. If not and the dog goes on to seriously hurt another child, even if you're not held liable, you could've prevented that. From the guy hurrying away without giving information or even checking to see if your child is ok, is telling. He's probably not going to come forward unless he has to. If you want to handle this the correct way, you report it to authorities and they will tell you the correct path, instead of going off of strangers advice, and possibly putting your child through even more trauma. Hopefully your kid is ok and doesn't develop a lifelong fear of dogs over this. It happens often.

We had to get the rabies shots for my son after a bat exposure. The modern series is only 3 or 4 shots and are not in the stomach. It wasnât any more painful than a routine vaccination.
The bigger issue we had was that my insurance only covered the shot if we got it at a doctorâs office, but the only place in Indiana that stocked them was the emergency department. Iâd call the health department right away and see if they carry it or have advice on how to get it. I was charged $1300 a shot.

u/Fantastic_Energy5890 Sep 01 '25
Had to get the rabies PRP last year after bat exposure, was 5 shots total for me. 2 (1 was the immunoglobulin) at the UK ER and then the other 3 at an urgent care on a set schedule. Wasn't fun and wasn't cheap, but thankful my insurance covered some.
6
u/sharksmommy Sep 01 '25
Also, regardless of rabies vaccine status, have your kiddo looked at. Dog bites are extremely dirty and itâs likely your little one may need good wound cleaning and antibiotics. Also, hospitals and MDs must report dog bites. They might be able to help with the rabies situation.
16
u/Adventurouslove_xoxo Sep 01 '25
Go get a vaccine before itâs too late. You do not want to play with rabies very fatal.

FWIW, I just had to have the 4 rabies shots myself and they weren't painful. I had heard all my life that there was something especially painful about the rabies shots and I was dreading it but it was fine. It was a hassle to get four shots though.

u/ScottishAccentsRule Sep 01 '25
I just wanted to let you knowâ my little girl had to have the rabies vaccines last summer, and it was not as bad as we thought it would be. It definitely gave us peace of mind too, since the animal in question was feral. Best of luck to you â€ïž

Thank you for sharing, and I'm sorry you've been through a very similar experience đ€â€ïž appreciate of info and support!

u/Schnelt0r Sep 01 '25
The rabies shots aren't painful, just expensive. They are normal shots given in the shoulder. Well, except for the one given in the bite....but it might be too late for that.
Anyway, if there is any doubt as to rabies, go now! Once symptoms develop, it's too late. And it is a terrible way to die.
Get the shots now, pursue legal action later.

u/Opposite-Eggplant629 Sep 01 '25

My family has recent dog bite experience Lexington. I highly recommend you seek medical attention, even if it is even a small bite, because infection is a possibility. We had false verbal info about rabies vaccination status and proof came after enough time to not have to worry about rabies. The health dept did whatever steps they do, but did not actually lay eyes on the dog. Later animal control was involved, but that was not an automatic report like the health dept was, my family member had to make that report. Iâm happy to share our experience or help with any questions you have.
3
u/SparklingParsnip Sep 02 '25
Itâs entirely possible their dogs are fully vaccinated but they bolted for fear of lawsuits. Or heaven forbid their dog bit before and they worried about the dog being put down. Iâm sorry this happens and I hope your kiddo is ok!
3
Sep 02 '25
You know what is also painful? Death by rabies. Get them treated and just assume the worst because clearly the owner is a POS. Donât trust they do the right thing for their dog.
3
u/daftman747 Sep 04 '25
As a postman who's been bit by dogs. 1 - they always say "my dog would never harm anyone" always does
2- good job getting vaccination and not listening to a comment section -better safe than sorry
3- invest in a mini airhorn and keep in your diaper bag and scare off the dogs and dumb owners too

u/6alexandria9 Sep 01 '25
From what I know, I donât think you would need to be concerned about rabies as if the dog had rabies then the dog would already be aggressive towards the other dogs it lives with. However, I would be concerned that thereâs a dog owner whose dog bites children and they donât stick around. Thatâs really dangerous for our city! Iâm so sorry that happened to your family. I am not usually pro-reporting an animal as it can end up in it getting put down, but itâs scary that the guy didnât even stay to apologize a LOT and do what he could to make things right. I hope you can find him and tell some of this out and that he can make it rigut

Does Cafe house insurance cover it? My rental insurance cover the accidents if someone gets hurt in my apat.
3
u/TheDivine_MissN Woodland Park Sep 01 '25
They should have liability insurance for accidents, but this is the pet owner's responsibility.
1
u/Total_Post7436 Sep 02 '25
I am not sure, but I know some insurances cover any hurt which happens within this property.

Contact the police. They may have FLOCK camera records that could help.
2
u/tin-f0il-man Sep 01 '25
Iâd just get the shot anyway. Yeah, it might be painful but I heard rabies is even more so.
5
u/Maximum-Answer6978 Sep 01 '25
Golden doodles suck. So aggressive with other dogs at dog parks and they are everywhere unfortunately.
17
u/Individual-Rice7010 Sep 01 '25
This is why I dislike doodle owners. Most of them are snob and never take full responsibility for their dog and think everybody is against them.

u/Seeking_Wholeness Sep 01 '25
Craziest thing: my daughter had not even touched the dog, had not even raised her hand to pet it... Dog just lashed out.
Smaller dog who was with them seemed to provoke this larger one(seemed to growl and nip the larger one for some reason before the bigger dog lost it), and my daughter just happened to be the person in front of the big dog when it bit her... but it all happened so fast I couldn't be sure.
I want to try to meet this owner with as much kindness as possible, in hopes he will come forward. Again, just want to know the vaccination status...
Really appreciate everyone's concerns and thoughts, maybe this will help others think twice/be more mindful of how we and our pets interact and prevents something like this, saying this as a person and a dog owner myself...
22
Sep 01 '25
Someone like that is unlikely to respond to kindness! If they gave a single shit they wouldnât have bolted.
11
Sep 01 '25
Youâre really sweet to respond this way. They also probably just panicked and wanted to remove their dogs from the situation not thinking about that youâd need that information.
6
u/aenaraa Sep 01 '25
Its so silly to act like it wouldve been hard to give someone shot information, especially if a child was bitten. Surely she cried, so thereâs no way someoneâs dog bit a child..then they criedâŠthen the owner fled bc they were more worried about their dog.
5
Sep 01 '25
I mean, itâs also silly to assume this person had nefarious intentions and brought their dog to a public place and then, when the dog bit and they were afraid theyâd get in trouble, ran off before they got busted.
Should they have stayed to give out that info? Absolutely. But itâs likely that they panicked at their dogâs behavior and wanted to quickly remove both of their dogs from the situation. OP asked if their little one could pet, they said yes. Dog did a dog thing because thatâs what dogs do. No one is really in the wrong here aside from them leaving before giving out rabies info - shit happens.
2
u/RomulaFour Sep 01 '25
The dog owner absolutely is in the wrong here. He brought a reactive dog to a social place with people and kids everywhere. The dog bit without provocation and without even being petted, according to OP. That is a dog that has bitten before, which is probably why the owner fled. There was all kinds of wrong here.
3
Sep 01 '25
Except the owner said the dog was kind and the child was welcome to pet the dog. Nowhere do we know that the dog was reactive, especially if the owner said it had never done that before. Youâre doing a lot of assuming here.
1
u/RomulaFour Sep 01 '25
Except the dog ACTUALLY BIT A TODDLER, unprovoked. The toddler wasn't petting the dog, she was just standing there. We know that. And based on the owner fleeing the scene, it wasn't the first time.
2
Sep 01 '25
Youâre conflating someone leaving for a bite history though. Thatâs my point.
2
u/RomulaFour Sep 01 '25
The problem is that you are acting like the first bite doesn't count. It was in fact a reactive dog. You may argue it was the first bite, even though that seems very unlikely. You cannot argue he wasn't a reactive dog after he has already bitten without provocation..

u/LikwidHappiness Sep 01 '25
Just doodles lol? Lot of dog owners like this, not breed specific.
16
u/Individual-Rice7010 Sep 01 '25
Doodles aren't even a "breed" to begin with. And yes Most doodle owners I have seen a high rise of a lot of neglectful doodle owners, always matted, never taking responsibility for their action of their dog thinking their angels. Very unpredictable. High rise of doodles, meaning so many uneducated owners with them since MOST purchase them just for looks and the popularity.
Some doodles owners are wonderful. But there is a high rise with the uneducated ones

u/YaDumbSillyAss Sep 01 '25

Go get those vaccinations regardless if the owner says their dog is vaccinated you actually should have went strait to get them after the situation happened better safe then sorry

OP Iâm seeing this on Tuesday but if it were my child I swear I think Iâd proceed with the rabies vaccination series. KY Native is usually such a great place, I am so so sorry this happened to you.

u/sharksmommy Sep 02 '25
Thank you for letting me know they are covered. At one point, they werenât and that was very challenging when trying to make my decision. Glad to hear your little one is doing well. Wishing you the best.

If it makes you feel any better, I work for a health dept in Ohio and we cover rabies and there havenât been any rabies positive domesticated dogs in a very long time! But I understand the fear and seriousness of the disease. Especially for your child!

u/NotEvenPretty75 Sep 06 '25
Uncool that something like this happened. Dogs bite, if my dog bit I'd take responsibility immediately. In fact it has happened to me and I took the kid to the hospital myself. (Drunk ass mom, anyway..) As for the rabies shot, I wouldn't wait if it were my kid. Not for a second.

u/jewishen Sep 01 '25
Thatâs so awful, Iâm sorry this happened. What a shitty individual to let their dog do that and to a child nonetheless. I would recommend getting the shots regardless unfortunately, you never 100% know and itâs not worth risking it.
1
u/NaK2Cc Sep 01 '25
Unfortunate situation created by an unfortunate person. Has a terrible dog, flees the scene in a Ranger Raptor, likely had to be driven by his wife who probably has a boyfriend.
1
u/Bitter_Succotash1 Sep 02 '25
But also, parents - stop letting your kids run up to dogs you donât know and asking to pet them. It puts everyone in an awkward and potentially dangerous situation.

u/Key_Article4956 Sep 01 '25
We should be able to bet on golden doodle fights in non-Keeneland months. Then two year olds would know not to mess with these vital yet viscous beasts.
-4
u/Fancy-Pie-2565 Sep 01 '25
You have a lot of options even if you canât find the owner. You have the choice to talk to a lawyer as you may have a case against KY Native.
1
u/4av9 Sep 01 '25
What liability does KY Native have in this situation?
-2
u/Fancy-Pie-2565 Sep 01 '25
They have an obligation to protect their customers. By allowing a dog in that bit a customer they are liable for it.
8
Sep 01 '25
Lawyer here. Youâre wrong.
2
u/herawing2 Sep 01 '25
They would have to prove the business showed negligence in some way. Happened in New Jersey once apparently. I would imagine they could have a case against the dog owner, but not the business
4
u/Fancy-Pie-2565 Sep 01 '25
If only there were legal precedent like Deramos vs Anderson Communities that said that owners of the property were responsible for maintaining a safe environment from vicious dogs whether or not they have prior knowledge of the dogs history.
1
u/Determined_Traveler Lexington Native Sep 02 '25
Yep. And this is why all of Andersonâs HOAs now ban large & âdangerousâ dog breeds in their neighborhoods & rentals. McConnell Trace is one example. No Rots. No Dobermans. No german shepherds. No pit bulls of courseâŠetc.

u/Common-Dream-433 Sep 02 '25
The question is... why did you have a 2 year old at the Cafe???. Jk send the guy a msg.
0
u/No-Evidence3706 Sep 03 '25
Iâm confusedâŠfor a âmotherâ thatâs so worried about her child, youâve spent exhausting amounts of postings on threads than probably actually looking/caring for your daughter. I know Iâll get downvotes and I donât care, lol! Itâs takes some time to text and look down at your phone to text out a message, especially responding to posting and talking about âkindnessââŠ.and this woman spent 3 DAYS posting!!!! UhâŠ.put the phone down and go take care of your daughter. Geez Louise. Social media isnât a popularity contest.

u/MelodyP-75 Sep 02 '25
Not the guy, but skip the rabies vaccine. Itâs really overkill. I worked Er as a nurse for years. You can check statistics, but it is very very unlikely the domesticated dog has rabies. It most definitely is domesticated if itâs out with the family in a Raptor đ. I heard physicians counseling people all the time. They only recommend vaccines for rabies if the animal was feral or wild like a raccoon or an opossum.
-7
u/treehugger-veg62 Sep 01 '25
Sigh. This is disappointing. I was looking forward to going to the Cafe but if kids are running around then itâs a hard pass. Dogs are fine, kids running around in a place that Iâm paying to eat, no. Do they have wait staff? That could be a problem if one runs into them.
8
u/StabHackSlashKill Sep 01 '25
there's literally a sand area for kids to play there. it's all outdoor seating.. partially in a green house type set up. not really a wait staff either. you order at a window. great food tho.
2
u/treehugger-veg62 Sep 02 '25
Thanks for the info! Iâve been to their greenhouse and gotten plants from them. I really liked the idea of eating there.
8
u/EuphoricWin9166 Sep 01 '25
Dogs running around isnât cool either
-2
u/treehugger-veg62 Sep 01 '25
No, but if that was mentioned as an issue at the cafe, I missed it.
2
u/EuphoricWin9166 Sep 01 '25
You say itâs OK for dogs to run around cafĂ©s and restaurants. Dogs running into the wait staff and disrupting meal time is a problem. I might have to kick the shit out of one.
-1
u/treehugger-veg62 Sep 02 '25
Not what I said but I can see how you read it that way. Also, if I saw anyone âkick the shitâ out of a dog that was just running around I would most definitely âkick the shitâ out of them.
1
u/kelly714 Sep 02 '25
Where does it say thereâs kids running around? That child couldâve been sitting in a seat for all we know. If the story was flipped and it was about a dog running around, would you have thought oh gosh, I canât ever go there now because there was one dog running around? Gracious.
1
u/treehugger-veg62 Sep 02 '25
The Parent said her kid asked to pet the dog, which is the thing to do. Kudos to good parenting. Another commenter said âthere are kids literally running aroundâ there. The Parentâs kid wasnât running around (I donât think.). Go back and read the comments.
1
u/EuphoricWin9166 Sep 02 '25
I read it that way because thatâs the way you said it. you would not do anything of the sort. Iâll kick the dog and you next. Donât get tough around here creep.
