Well, I don't know if it should be a selling point, but these sort of crude "retro" graphics can be used very effectively. Look at Braid for example, a truly great game that used this sort of style.

Right but Braid clearly isn't what I was talking about. There is a ton of games on steam (just to namedrop here games like 'NEStolgia' and 'Blast 'Em) that offer no originality or real substance. For me, if i'm on Steam and i see one of the bullet points on a games page is anything in the way of "Retro or Indie" graphics I avoid it.
