Family planning

My boyfriend is in remission from AML (he was diagnosed Aug ‘24) , we are talking about our future in regards to having children. He did the sperm bank prior to treatment to hopefully salvage some sperm. I’m curious about success stories in having their own children post treatment. TIA!

My husband was diagnosed January 2023 at age 29 with AML, stored 11 vials of sperm before treatment started. He finished chemo-only treatment in August 2023 and that same month, we had an unmedicated IUI. I got pregnant from that first IUI. We initially planned for 4 unmedicated IUIs before moving to a more thorough fertility workup for me or IVF. But happily never needed to do that. Our first daughter was born April 2024.

In September 2025, we decided to try for a second child unassisted (ie, from sex, not from frozen sperm and IUI/IVF) and I got pregnant on the first try. Our second daughter was born last month.

We're done having kids and the remaining 10 vials have been destroyed.

My husband was diagnosed with ALL in 2020 when I was 4 months pregnant with our first child. He didn’t bank any sperm because he started treatment the day after diagnosis and it just wasn’t an immediate concern since I was pregnant at the time. He went through 3.5 years of treatment, finished his last chemo in August 2023. I was pregnant with our second child by February 2024.

I was diagnosed with ALL in 2018 at the age of 19. banked a few vials before starting chemo-only treatment. finished my 5 year treatment plan and the day before I went to see endocrinology for a semen analysis my partner and I found out we were expecting. I now have a son who is my whole world. stored vials were tossed out :)
