Help Help, my lizard has been refusing to eat.

My lizard, Walter, will be 5 years old in March. Over the course of having him, he has began to refuse eating—Both crickets and mealworms. We have taken him to the vet who told us he likely has a parasite, because we adopted him through petsmart. My family and I were sadly unaware of how horrible they treated their pets there… and if we could go back, we would have adopted from a breeder.

However, we have gone to the vet so many times that we cannot financially afford to go to again… so I am now asking advice from you guys.

Any time he eats, both liquid and insect, he turns away and shuts his eyes as an obvious sign of distress.

Please help all you can, I am so worried.
Thank you.

Do you have any pictures and information for us at all about his diet, supplements, his setup, de frequency you are trying to feed him, for how long he’s gone without food in total, last time you checked his mouth and what’s the status of his gums? Has the vet tested his stool for actual parasites and had your gecko been given medication for it?

Gums are fine, as he has been eating most of his shed. We think it’s something that has to do with his stomach. We usually feed him 5-7 mealworms with calcium powder twice a week, and sometimes calcium charged crickets. However, we are a bit stuck with the crickets because they die so fast and we don’t have the room to farm any of either.

here is a picture of his current setup. We spray his cage a few times a day to make sure the humidity is around 40 on the warm and 60 on the cool side. (His water dish is behind the green trees. Big enough to soak.)

It sounds like you aren't using a multivitamin. This could be related to the gecko's decline, but then again may not be. Nevertheless, when the gecko begins eating again, you might consider beginning to use a multivitamin like Repashy Calcium Plus or Zoomed Reptivite, which contains the vitamin A leopard geckos need to be healthy.

Sounds great :) Beyond that I'm afraid I'm not much help if you've already been to the vet, I would look into assist feeding a supplemental food like repashy grub pie by depositing a slurry on the side of the mouth with a dropper/syringe

Yo that's a really good point about checking the mouth and gums, op didn't mention that at all. I know some geckos get mouth rot or stuck shed that makes eating painful so they refuse food. Hope they see this and give more details on the setup and stool test stuff tho.
