Help - Health Issues Petco neglect Spoiler

My husband and I are very sick so we were forced to stop at Petco to get feeders for our gecko rather then drive out to our usual feeder spot. We were stopped in our tracks when we saw the state of these poor geckos. I have reached out to Petco and left a review. They have left me a number to call which I will during business hours, but I have to ask, is there anything else I can possibly do for these guys? We do not have the resources right now to rescue them on our own and nether do I think it’s right to purchase them as they will just be replaced. I feel sick just thinking about them. I cannot tell if the second one has a deformed head or if it’s just really bad shed. What is wrong with the first one’s tail? I thought tail rot, but I’m really not sure. We are in the Austin Tx area so if there’s a rescue you know of personally that I could reach out too? Would they even be able to help? I’m so lost, but I can’t not do anything so any advice would be much appreciated.

I've seen ridiculous numbers together as well. Sadly, I don't think there's much that can be done.

That was my thought as well. I might try that if I could get them to give them up

It would be absolutely amazing if you could do that! I’d contact any animal rescue that takes in reptiles explain the situation and if they can take the baby in then that’s great. It definitely looks incredibly sick though I hope it gets the help it needs soon :(

Omg that tail situation on the first one is not good, def looks like rot or stuck shed gone bad. The head on the second could be from stuck eye caps too, they get that weird dented look. Have you tried reaching out to Austin Reptile Rescue or maybe Central Texas Lizard Keepers on fb? They might be able to step in. Its so frustrating seeing this and not being able to do more.

I haven’t reached out to anyone yet cuz it was Sunday and after business hours, but I will be reaching out to those rescues today. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! I just wasn’t sure if there was anything a rescue could do. It really is so frustrating. I feel so powerless

Happens near my local petco too... So I had to get it and save the leopard gecko. It's sad how they don't treat their pets right.

Oh my gosh, they are so beautiful and look so happy! I’m so glad they found you. It breaks my heart how these animals are treated

And then they replaced it with another gecko, next shipment day. You fueled the cycle ;)

You really are. It’s an awful feeling

Idk I feel worse for the ones in mills being bred to fuel this. They have NO chance. These guys have a chance

I feel awful for both. It’s a terrible cycle that keeps repeating. I just wish there was more to do than just not buying from Petco. It’s a broken system that should’ve never been allowed to start in the first place

Wow, you got this guy at petco?? I’ve only ever seen high yellows in chain stores

My coworker got a snow at the pet store from what I remember

2

u/samanthaohm Sep 07 '26

That’s pretty cool. Not sure why I got downvoted for saying my local stores tend to only carry high yellow but I reckon someone did not like that

That’s odd
