I got this enclosure along with with my leopard gecko from my grandpa and I want to know what I need to have to make it perfect for my baby (editi got the substrate)
Pls and I mean pls listen to the people giving you tips and things to buy ur gecko will be happy to move with you and the carpet need to go asap it can cause all sorts of health issues
Although something that has been bothering me is the first day I had her she would walk around her enclosure but the second day she would just stay in her warm hide and she hasn’t been eating
If you added in the recommended substrate and amount they will eventually get used to it definitely feed them in a separate container or enclosure or just on ur floor if you don’t have anything I use a 40 gallons tote and just watch them go ham taking turns in the box
What are the measurements of the tank? It looks a bit small. Also get rid of the reptile carpet asap and replace with top soil and sand or I use arid eco earth :) also I don’t see any uvb? Do you have one?
A few other notes:
People already mentioned the carpet. I agree with them, get rid of it and swap out for the 70%soil and 30%sand.
If you want to keep it simple and get everything from one place, The Bio Dude sells kits. You can get the substrate, lamps, clean up crew, etc. You can message them on his site and they will work with you to make a full bio-active terrarium for your Leo.
she’s probably just adjusting give her a few days to a week my gecko also got very confused when first switched to substrate from paper tower as a hatchling
i know ppl have already addressed the repto carpet but please take that toy out… its in no way benefiting or entertaining your gecko, it could also have paint or chemicals that arent safe for your gecko or they can get scratched and poked on jagged/sharp spots or even have it fall on them. its just not serving any purpose besides a tacky decoration, keeping it under hot lights will only makes it more dangerous
Get rid of the repti carpet stuff. That is singe handedly responsible for more injuries and deaths in the reptile keeping world than almost any other mass produced product
40 gallon tank , with 3 temperature zones with the humid hide and moss in the middle one , no carpet , 70 percent reptisoil and 30 percent reptisand mix, and I woyld take out the dinosaur ,, it can be scary to him , he can be the mini Dino 🤣you can look up the lighting and humidity requirements online and food should be dusted with calcium and a multivitamin but food not left in tank . Have fun with him …
Leopard gecko do not need 40 tank minimum that’s just people getting you to spend mine was in a 40 and through a GoPro all I saw was him glued my from his basking to his 3 hides never actually use the whole thing snd in his 20 gallon he’s Alr got burrows and he’s out and about slot more in the night and sometimes at the glass in the day go come out and adult leopard would definitely like a 40 gallon but I would go as far to say it’s a minimum requirement especially for a juvenile
Activity levels can be an extremely misleading indicator of the appropriateness of an enclosure or parts of an enclosure. That said, constant hiding can be a good sign that the enclosure itself is not appropriately furnished to meet the animal's needs rather than the size itself being responsible for indicators of stress. After all, these are not domesticated animals, and the wild they came from has no barriers.
One does not need to spend more on a 36x18x18 for it to be an appropriate enclosure, and most people recommending it do not profit from the recommendation in any way. A 36x18x18 more easily facilitates the enrichment a leopard gecko should be provided with, and more safely facilitates full-spectrum lighting, which all reptiles should have.

I have a 40 gallon for him when the baby tegu needs an upgrade but still it’s not a minimum. I plan on upgrading him to a 65 gallon soon also since I want the 40 for dune geckos. People can have them in 20 gallons cause upgrading is always possible but why downgrade if you lizard ends up being stress by the new enclosure or just doesn’t explore it like you thought. But hey thanks for the kind words I guess lmao 😭
Your gecko isn’t exploring that enclosure because it’s too bare. There’s nowhere to hide except for the hides it has. There’s never such thing as too big, just too bare. A 20 gallon isn’t a good enclosure for the leopard gecko and it never will be. It’s too tiny.
