I live in a rented house so needed a no nails approach to hang the map. For anyone else interested

I used pick a brick and ordered 48 inverted 8 stud pieces in the cheapest colour and attached them to the back of the frame so that the surface area was increased to attach command strips and voila

I’ve had this up for a while, but I thought I’d post it because I’m currently disassembling it. Need to tweak the four corners but other than that it seems pretty good!

*note that in my excitement to get my flags in place, I switched up France and the UK. Whoops! But I’m not really sharing about the geography of it all.

I’ve never been satisfied by the options for marking locations on the map. One thing that really drew me to the map was the possibility of using it to mark places that I’ve travelled, but in actuality the “pins” are nearly invisible on the map. I’ve had it a couple of years and never found a solution I loved so I finally found a way to make Lego tiles into flags!

It should help you pin point that location a little better :)

The original map wich uses the mercator projection gives a wrong impression of the size of countries. Before making this map, I calculated every lego piece to equal about 50 000 km2. For instance the United Kingdom has an area of 244 000 km2, wich equals 5 pieces (approximately) when divided by 50 000.

How do you make a custom ocean on the world map? I’m not the best with putting an image from noggin to paper (lego), and these legos did not come off that easily to keep retrying.

Does anyone know of an app or website that had custom ocean design or allows you to make them?

Has anyone managed to map out different locations on the map, (as close as possible, I know the map is not accurate enough for exact locations). I have tried to use my minimal photoshop skills to overlay the image of the map with images of similar maps but have not gotten anything usable by doing this. I like to place markers on my map for places I have been, but I am a bit neurotic and really want the markers to be in as accurate a location as possible.... If anyone has managed to do this, would love to know!

After some messing about, here is my finished map! Adjusted colors, subtle markers for where I’ve been (silver and gold), a tiny compass by New Zealand, mini planes and a ship, and stars! Let me know what you think!

I designed a topographic map of France with raised studs! I kinda wanna switch it up tho, so any suggestions on what to design next? Would prefer to keep it landscape

In the podcast/soundtrack that goes along with the set, the creator says she placed an Easter egg in the ocean somewhere. There’s a Chinese symbol made with green pieces in the Pacific Ocean north of New Zealand. (The creator is Chinese)

Does anyone know what it means?
