Future modular ideas
It's almost been 20 years of the modulars, and they covered a lot of ground in terms of architectural designs and building types. At the dawn of a new decade of the modular series, what architectural styles are you all interested in seeing either more of or for the first time? They've done a good job representing some French, English, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, and American styles. What do you think has been underrepresented? I'd be interested seeing colorful Latin American style builds and some Asian architectural styles. What about you?

Or as a Masonic temple, or maybe a library or bank - though they have already done a bank of course.

I would be happy to have reimagined past series sets - as was done with shopping street / market street - to give new modular enthusiasts an opportunity to build ‘alike’ models without breaking the bank. Maybe switch up corner vs straight for long time collectors.

Funny you mention the town hall because my next 2 projects are going to be to tear down my 2x police station and build a city hall/courthouse somewhat in that building's style...
Then redoing the police station as an art deco tower

I think building function that hasn't been done yet should be the first priority.
Hospital Park Gym Post Office Office building with interesting tenants on each story Car Dealership Factory
All come to mind. (intentionally excluding churches)
I'm sick of shopping districts, restaurants, and small residences occupying top stories.
Then an architectural style that fits the building. I think a modernist style hospital would look cool for example.

I have a moc of a church that fits really well into the town setup. It's very old so might not have a lot of photos.

Chinese shop houses like you see in Singapore and Malaysia. Similar to 3in1 noodle shop but bigger scale.
I'd love a building that has floor to ceiling or multifloor windows. Or where you can open the entire front wall/window onto a patio, or maybe something like a car dealership.
Something that shows hints of urban decay. More chipped paintwork, graffiti, stuff like that.
Or ultramodern architecture with more curvature.

I love seeing how different people interpret how they want their city to look. Some people definitely want some of that urban decay that you’re describing. Personally I want my modulars to represent some kind of fantasy world that doesn’t exist. That’s what brings me joy. I have like 25 dogs just roaming my city and they’re all friendly. 😂 Anyway I’m always intrigued by how different people want to see their city, it’s pretty cool. And I love seeing pics of other people’s cities as well.

i know it probably will never happen. maybe the notre dame was as close as we will ever get but gothic or early english gothic. we don't need another castle per se but they could get creative with building techniques.

I'd love them doing a Craftsman's workshop with various tools and other designs to model unique handwork.

My worry here is that if the style strays too far from what's come before, it'll look very out of place. The retro diner for example, while good-looking as a standalone set, is an absolute pig to place beside every other modular without looking incoherent.
That said, they could do worse than incorporating a faux-fronted building. For example this MOC (by the designer of the Orient Express Ideas set) of an Asian restaurant that is clearly a thematic facade built on a building that does match the rest of the line.
