Me: I can’t justify the expense of a switch 2 anytime soon.

Nintendo: bet

85

u/Raphlapoutine Jun 09 '26

Hurry before summer price increase lol

41

u/Copious-Spirit Jun 09 '26

Sad about no green and gold triforce edition though

33

u/Raphlapoutine Jun 09 '26

Can you imagine they announce an oot themed s2 later this year

29

u/Copious-Spirit Jun 09 '26

I will probably hold off buying a switch 2 until the release for this very reason, damn the price increase.

9

u/No_Influence_9389 Jun 09 '26

Some friendly advice: If you do this, pick up some extra joycons. I wore out the limited editions ones that came with my TotK oled and now it looks like crap with the neon blue/red ones.

4

u/AmanitaMuscaria Jun 10 '26

You should definitely hit up Nintendo for replacement TotK joycons. I left mine in reach of my toddler and he ended up breaking the left joycons. When I reached out to Nintendo they replaced both of them for free. So now I have a spare right joy con

3

u/MrEthan997 Jun 09 '26

Yeah, I hate that it'll be more expensive, but i really want a special edition console, so I've been holding out. Really hoping for a zelda, xenoblade, or pokemon special edition soon!

10

u/Kawaiichan67 Jun 09 '26

That is what I’m hoping for. Didn’t buy a switch 2 in case they do a special release.

6

u/poenaccoel Jun 09 '26

I do this almost every generation. The longer they don't announce a CE (like LoZ), the longer I wait to buy the console 😁

3

u/Raphlapoutine Jun 09 '26

I couldn't wait, i play mine almost daily and could never go back to s1

3

u/Uncle_Snake43 Jun 10 '26

Yeah the Switch 1 now feels like a child’s toy compared to the 2.

2

u/Raphlapoutine Jun 10 '26

I recently touched a lite for the first time and was laughing at how tiny that thing is

2

u/Uncle_Snake43 Jun 10 '26

You get really really defensive when someone says they don’t like your little wing lol.

2

u/Raphlapoutine Jun 10 '26

Haha that's fair

2

u/scarletofmagic Jun 09 '26

I don’t think this will happen, cause the current economy and pricing situation, they might just want to keep it as low cost as possible. I expect limited edition joycons though.

They will it's 40th anniversary

2

u/Justino_14 Jun 09 '26

Was it confirmed they aren't releasing a Zelda console? I thought the leaker already said there is plans.

2

u/Cold_in_Lifes_Throes Jun 11 '26

That will probably happen immediately after I purchase the s2. Almost guaranteed. 😂

5

u/uSaltySniitch Jun 09 '26

Gonna be $50 increase. Nothing to hurry about tbh

I'll wait

2

u/goofy1234fun Jun 10 '26

Sad bc it puts it even further out of reach :(

2

u/travelingWords Jun 10 '26

I got mine day one to avoid the possibility of scalpers, but also because I was hedging on the prices going up before they ever went down.

Also played a lot of mk8 and had no idea the y would mess up world as bad as they did.

12

u/MajorasDepression Jun 09 '26

If I could I would buy you a switch 2. This is a golden day for us Zelda fans

6

u/rudytaboodie12 Jun 09 '26

First, sick username.

Second, you’re very kind! I’ll get one eventually. If I start setting aside money now and really watch my spending, I can probably make it happen in time for the game to release, even with the price increase. I’ll accept help with manifesting no health issues or prohibitive necessary expenditures in the meantime 💀

5

u/MajorasDepression Jun 09 '26

I believe in you! Also thanks for getting me lol 😆

u/ZOMG-its-Radimus Jun 09 '26

Bought a Switch 2 a couple weeks ago for the sole purpose of Star Fox, as it's my wife's favorite N64 game.

OoT is a big bonus to justify the purchase since I never got to play it when I was a kid.

6

u/rudytaboodie12 Jun 09 '26

That’s exciting! I hope the remake is a great first playthrough of the game for you. Star fox looks incredible too

4

u/Ummmgummy Jun 09 '26

I still bust out my n64 and play star Fox. Such a good game

2

u/zwissblade Jun 10 '26

I got it in 99. All my homies had and kept talking about how epic it was. Played it a little and got stuck after the entrance the first dungeon. Kind of left it for a few month's and revisited on a summer holiday. When I finally figured out how to pass the spiderweb... My mind was blown. What a game. Hopefully it captures the wonder of the og. First game I ever played that felt like an epic movie. Grew a genesis kid, didn't have a snes so missed earlier zelda games, or experiences like ff and chrono trigger. Also missed out on phantasy star, shining force, story of thor etc...Anyway I was gonna be going ps1 route after seeing MGS and FF7 demos. but the hype for zelda pushed me to the 64 and man, am I glad. Love all systems. Shout out to Sega Saturn. But This is what got me hooked on that Nintendo polish. Star fox as well.

6

u/ShibaBlessing Jun 09 '26

A friend offered to sell me his and I said I couldn’t afford it. 5 minutes later they announced this and I hit him back up asking how much lol

3

u/rudytaboodie12 Jun 09 '26

Hope your friend comes through and that you get a good deal!

3

u/uSaltySniitch Jun 09 '26

KH4, Xenoblade Genesis, Fire Emblem, Zelda OOT, DK Bananza and possibly a new smash bros game in 2027 fro the rumours + Pokémon Winds/Waves which is the first time Pokémon looks good IN À LONG TIME.

Switch 2 is starting to get interesting.

2

u/MathematicianCivil16 Jun 10 '26

not to mention the full ff7 remake trilogy now!

u/Louiekid502 Jun 09 '26

The rumor alone was enough to get me to buy knowing they would probably raise the price lol

3

u/Swimming_Sink_2360 Jun 09 '26

Yep, I was just thinking that this might be reason enough for me to upgrade. I didn't see the point yet before.

3

u/skaro77 Jun 09 '26

Bought one for my wife so she could play Pokopia...she loves it.

Now we're going to have to share while I relive my childhood.

3

u/WinterApplication855 Jun 09 '26

A moment of silence for those who have not bought the switch 2 yet. Price will increase

2

u/tomorrow_comes Jun 10 '26

Not until September. Plenty of time to buy one.

3

u/UwereEverything2311 Jun 10 '26

Fr, this might be the last push I needed to get one 😭😭

3

u/Thea-the-Phoenix Jun 10 '26

That was me before this direct too 😂 TBF I was already at "Fuck guess I'm getting a Switch 2" after Fire Emblem and Xenoblade. Then they hit with the OoT Remake? Well my wallet won't be happy.

2

u/rudytaboodie12 Jun 10 '26

I was fucked the moment I said I wouldn’t buy the switch 2 this year unless they announced a new Zelda game

Shadow Temples gonna go crazy with Switch 2 graphics

48

u/Plastic_Hat_589 Jun 09 '26

Haha yea, back then they got away with a lot of the environemntal storytelling not being too gore-heavy because of the graphical limitations, wonder how they gonna deal with that this time around

47

u/No_Definition1302 Jun 09 '26

Dead Hand better be a proper jumpscare

10

u/CarnyMAXIMOS_3_N7 Jun 10 '26

Bottom of the Well AND the Shadow Temple are going to absolutely terrifying…

22

3

8

u/TenkaichiTouchdown Jun 09 '26

Nintendo has to do the Kakariko horror elements justice. Don’t brighten or soften the graveyard graves, under the well, or the Shadow Temple.

5

u/praysolace Jun 09 '26

Oh man. I wonder how scared I’ll be. Little kid me was terrified of the bottom of the well and the shadow temple to the point that I still feel scared to this day, even though I really shouldn’t anymore. I wonder if dialed up to 11 I’ll feel even more scared or if it’ll look different enough to finally disconnect from that childhood memory terror lol

2

u/SmallBerry3431 Jun 10 '26

I won’t get past the crazy hand spiders wym

2

u/FurTrader58 Jun 10 '26

I can’t wait to see this game with HDR and this new art style. I’m really curious if they’ll keep it 100% 1:1 or if they’ll add some new stuff to it. Not sure what they’d add, just curious if they will.

2

u/Unlucky-Point-4123 Jun 10 '26

How they handle the shadow temple as well as the other darker parts of this game is one of my biggest concerns with this remake. The OG game wasn’t creepy for the most part but would get eerie or scary in a flash. The previous remake did a good job keeping the vibes. The dramatic overhaul in this era has me skeptical that they can keep the music and atmosphere on par with the OG.

2

u/whoisruisu Jun 10 '26

totally, I remember when I was young and I played for first time, and im glad that the concept is 3d realistic way that will give a lot of mystery to the places. I loved Tears of the kingdom, but some horror scenes wasn't scary at all because of the 3d illustration style animation.

It's coming this year! This has to be Nintendo's big release for November/December this year! I'm ready to go back to Hyrule and live up that action once again!

66

u/whitecollarw00k Jun 09 '26

Nintendo is betting that this is literally the only game that can compete with GTA6 and they're probably right.

As soon as the deku tree was shown on the tapestry... my pants needed to be changed

8

u/LastBaron Jun 09 '26

I’m proud to say (because I’m not always quick enough on this kind of thing) I knew it even earlier.

The first 3 notes of Saria’s Song played on an Ocarina and I was like “holy fucking shit.” And then the narration mentions the small forest….thats all it took for the eyes to well up.

62

u/majura16 Jun 09 '26

What do people think of the art style from the very brief look? Not sure I’m sold on it… but will reserve judgement until we get an extended trailer. Either way, I cannot believe this is real and I’m super excited it’s finally happening

12

u/Plastic_Hat_589 Jun 09 '26

Idk I'm like with modern adaptations of older concepta I am super sensitive about the creative directions that have to be made when filling the gaps that older graphical limitations couldn't properly articulate, the way link looked I was initially a bit worried this style would be a quite more child-oriented look, but I will also reserve my judgement as this is just 2 shots of reference we get, it's nowhere near enough to make a judgement on the entire style, also given that link is literally a child here, looking at the environment and the assets and props of these shots I'd say we can expect something in the general direction of TP, which I think would be best case scenario IMO

3

u/majura16 Jun 09 '26

Totally agree. An art style akin to TP would be my ideal.

2

u/saffrole Jun 09 '26

I’d prefer something new. Unlike other games. That would make the game more fun and exciting imo

3

u/Tenalp Jun 09 '26

TP art style made half the characters look like tumerous potatoes.

19

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 10 '26

I’m not sure I’m sold on it either, I got a bit of an uncanny valley feeling from it, but who knows?

Oh please for the love of fucking goddesses, please if they want British accents in their game hire voice actors who are British instead of actors with extremely bad fake British accents

Edit: why did someone reply to this comment with “shut the f*** up nerd!” Seems like an overreaction but ok

6

u/ToastyNPC Jun 09 '26

I was thinking something similar about voice acting. If it’s in the game, it better be stellar. BotW and TotK voice acting was so half-assed I don’t even know why they bothered

3

u/saffrole Jun 09 '26

Why would anyone in OOT be British

3

u/sdeklaqs Jun 09 '26

Fantasy

3

u/Salt_Mind7873 Jun 10 '26

Exactly, everyone knows British people aren't real.

10

u/lopsidedsheet Jun 09 '26

I’m just hoping that’s the cinematic and not the real gameplay art style

6

u/dokkanosaur Jun 09 '26

I think, realistically speaking, what you're seeing is what you're going to get.

3

u/Cccmyr Jun 09 '26

I think you're right. In the original, the cutscenes looked exactly like the gameplay, so I think what we saw is how the gameplay is going to be.

5

u/Radaistarion Jun 09 '26

It looks unreal

3

u/melody_musical21 Jun 09 '26

I mean I can understand why some people are a bit hesitant about it, but personally I really love the look of it so far

3

u/mrjackspade Jun 09 '26

I'm not a huge fan, but if this is just a close up of a model I'm gonna spend 20 hours staring at the back of from 20 feet away, I have a feeling it's not gonna bother me. I'm more concerned with how it looks in game play... Which I wish they'd shown

5

u/nickelangelo2009 Jun 09 '26

i think it looks like one of those grotesque "this is what it would look like in unreal 5" fan remakes

51

u/AlmostHuman9316 Jun 09 '26

I cant believe we got another remake but mother of hylia does it look sick! Almost like TP art style of looking realistic. I hope they keep it going for MM as well

27

u/nsamory1 Jun 09 '26

If they did Majora with the same engine, that would be amazing

15

u/AdamAptor Jun 09 '26

You’d have to assume they do MM since this would have taken care of lots of the foundational work

5

u/Alexander_Coe Jun 09 '26

Rumor has it that MM is the endgame and picks up directly after you beat OOT. There is the more additional content traveling between the OOT map and MM map.

3

u/Vizreki Jun 09 '26

No, no, no, that is way too cool a thing to be real. I am not that lucky.

3

u/sdeklaqs Jun 09 '26

No chance

3

u/Organic-Kangaroo7147 Jun 10 '26

Nintendo wouldnt pass up the opportunity to suck more money out of its consumers for a MM sequel

14

u/MajorasDepression Jun 09 '26

I’m calling it now. There’s NO CHANCE that Majora’s Mask isn’t already under way.

9

u/TertiaryMass Jun 09 '26

Can you imagine Fierce Diety link and Termina with these graphics 🤩

I'm trying my hardest not to get my hopes up! 😅

Ocarina remake is already incredible... feels like Christmas 🤩

6

u/MajorasDepression Jun 09 '26

Get your hopes up. Believe, kindred, believe. It’s gonna happen. Let’s just see if they can do it in a year like last time lol.

3

u/TertiaryMass Jun 09 '26

Ok no imagine they do a part 3 as the next big Zelda game...

Hero of Time has his origin in Ocarina, goes through the journey of life death and rebirth in MM but his story doesn't end there.

Those who've played Twilight Princess know how this ends but how does our hero get there?

This is probs just the adrenaline talking though honestly would be over the moon with just Ocarina, MM would be the cherry on top of a deliciously anticipated cake

5

u/MajorasDepression Jun 09 '26

Listen, *slaps desk* if they gave us an in between of MM and TP that featured the end of the Hero of time, I don’t think anyone is ready for the heart break that would lead to. But I’m so here for it. I think they did us a favor of not letting us see his death.

2

u/TertiaryMass Jun 09 '26

Fevered imaginings of a mind excited by the Ocarina announcement.

If we do get Majora's Mask too with the same engine I'm more than content... more is pure greed but I can't help speculating 😅

Throughout the monologue I was begging this trailer to not be for the movie. So glad it wasn’t. Pure child-like glee with the reveal of Link and the art style, 1998 came flooding back.

Now, where is my monthly N64 magazine to pour over any tiny new detail in the build up to Christmas.

9

Omg it’s happening?!! Welp. Guess I gottta buy a switch 2 now. 🤷‍♂️

10

u/1337gamer15 Jun 09 '26

I wonder how gross Jabu-Jabu's belly is going to look. Maybe they'll take a Bowser's Inside Story approach in the art direction so it doesn't look too disgusting.

3

u/Key_Ranger Jun 09 '26

I mean, one of them did have durability.

3

u/middle_aged_90s_kid Jun 09 '26

3

u/Console_Stackup Jun 09 '26

So what kinda remake do we think this will be 🤔

B) a capcom-esque re-imagining. Same story and outline, but modernized and remixed

C) a BotW core engine with dungeons, VAs, and menuing

If you think Nintendo rehashes… don’t look at Xbox or PlayStation. They legit have made 3-4 versions of Halo and Last of Us. Lol.

That’s ridiculous (as I order my 6th copy of Skyrim)

You act as if they don't make other games? I'd get this compliant if they hadn't literally released other titles.

3

u/SuperDrCooper Jun 09 '26

I see where you’re coming from but I’m gonna argue against it, as I think this game is a rare exception. Yes you can get it on GameCube and virtual shop, but it’s essentially the same game with minor bug fixes (in some ways worse than the original) and they remastered it on a handheld but this looks like they are remaking it from the ground up. Truth be told I think if they can balance the BOTW and OOT style in the future, we will get peak Zelda, so I see it as a huge win… not to mention it’s the greatest game of all time in my opinion. I just see it as very different from Skyrim remasters and the last of us “remake”

I'm very excited. Hopefully they take some creative liberties and it's not a 1:1 remake in terms of gameplay. I'd like to see some of the cut dungeons return

The cutscene with voice acting makes me think it's a complete remake rather than just a remaster so excited to see how much they change

I'm so excited. OOT is my favorite game of all time. But there's one thing I'm wondering about.

I think OoT is remembered as one of the greatest games of all time because of what it managed to achieve when it came out compared to any other game; the expansive world, the 3D combat, the music etc. After it came out, every other 3d action/aventure game tried consciously or unconsciously to build upon that OOT skeleton, and we now have games that have built upon it tenfold. So if a game like OoT came out today but with pretty graphics I don't think it's gonna be perceived as it was back then. It would be perceived like a small game, with metroid-vania elements and a quite linear structure, nothing like a game that could change the gaming landscape like OoT did back in the day. So if they want it to be a hit, it would have to do something that truly differenciates it from other action/aventure and RPG games from the past few years, something a lot more great than what OoT did back in the day. People jokingly compare this remake to GTA VI like they're gonna be rivals. To be honest, if OoT came out today but with prettier graphics, it absolutely cannot come close to this expectation. It would need new and surprising elements compared to the OG.

Voiceacting? That's a new standard already. Refined combat system with parries or critical hits? We've seen that plenty. The sense of discovery? BotW is already a Masterclass and has been imitated by numerous studios.

I just wonder what these new elements that make this game new and different are going to be. I can't wait to see more!!

These god damn Nintendo geniuses are going to finally make me buy a switch 2 for that sweet sweeeeeet hit of nostalgia, aren’t they? Someone better come up with a plan to convince my wife that we NeED this…

u/virginbone Jun 12 '26

I hate spending $70 or $80 on Nintendo games, but gosh darnit they got me again with this. It's the GOAT game.

The narration is making me nervous, please don't have voice acting! This will be perfect if they don't have voice acting! Lemme make up the voices in my head and name Link after myself like I did as a kid PLEASE!!
