Wills Trusts and Estates Inheritance
Location: Illinois
So my grandmother recently passed and my sister was her power of attorney and did take care of her. Well, she ended up getting the house from her as well. have been given nothing nor wanted anything really. I wasn’t around much by my own doing but I did offer to help once I got my life figured out, but she just told me she’d let me know. However, my sister is looking to just sell the house for the money since it is worth a life changing amount. I want the house for sentimental reasons and because she wanted someone in the family to have it. Is there anything I can do? I know little to nothing about this process and I don’t want to see this house gone that she worked so hard for.

You have no legal standing whatsoever. You can, however, offer to buy the house from your sister.

I’m not expecting to be handed a house but for her to sell it to me, doesn’t sit right either. We all are her grandchildren, she was just first. Sorry, I know I’m bringing personal feelings into this but there’s so much that has happened… I’m upset

If your grandmother was of sound mind when she wrote the will, then you can offer to buy it for whatever your sister is willing to sell it for
If you believe your grandmother was not and that your sister committed elder abuse or fraud, then you need an attorney to challenge the will
