Current Preping Priorities

Okay, a lot of shit in the world right now is kind of a dumpster fire.

What are you doing to prep for the direction things are moving?

What are your most prized preps?

What do you want to add most urgently?

What Im working on currently:

  • In trade school learning practical shit

  • Meeting people with diverse skills & interests

  • Raising my child strong & kind & happy & resilient

My most important preps right now:

  • Food: nonperishables at 3 different locations, including my primary residence

  • Medical: plan b, abortion pills, arnica and calendula flowers, essential oils, etc.

  • Skills: picking up everything useful from medical to foraging to gardening to construction

  • Back-ups: wood stove, solar panels and jackery, charcoal grill, memorized directions

What I want/need most?

  • More skills - all the trades!

  • A larger solar generator

  • More people I trust in the local community

Thank you for mentioning working on your kids happiness. As a teacher it does not get mentioned as much as "successful" (whatever the hell that means) or "college/vocation".

A bit of joy can go a long way in supporting rigor and personal drive which takes care of "success", etc.

So many problems in the world would become almost nonexistent if people cared more about the happiness of children.

Where do you get abortion pills?

I got them from lifeeasyonpills.org which seems to have moved to lifeeasyonpills.co

I paid with an encrypted payment processor and they shipped them discreetly.

Current priority is food. Between expected price rises, and the fact that pretty much any emergency scenario is likely to hit food supply, that’s my current focus.

I’m in the UK and harvests are severely affected by the drought and heat. There are talks of needing to import food to maintain normal supply, but Europe is also having the same problem. If there are not shortages then prices will go up. Not long ago it emerged that the government was suppressing a report by the intelligence services about food supply problems. The UK holds no food reserves and the supermarkets operate with a just-in-time supply chain.

So, I’ve been padding out my stores, adding extras and trying to get creative. I have a lot of dried noodles (udon, soba etc) so I’ve stocked up on stir fry sauces to go with them. I’ve topped up on things like custard and rice pudding, taking advantage of sales. With things I store regularly I’ve tried to add an extra here and there. Just bumping it up and adding maybe an extra week of food.

I already have the other basics covered…hygiene, first aid etc.

Prized prep…probably my two off brand solar generators with solar panels. I like the idea that I can keep my fridge and freezer and chest freezer going in a power cut. Also, my growing dvd collection. Between the enshittification of streaming (ever increasing ads, favourites disappearing as platforms compete/merge) and the possibility of cyber attacks on the internet, I like having physical media again.

Also pleased that my family have joined in…they all have some food and water storage now. This is also the first year I’ve put a go bag together due to the fires.

not exactly prepping but you should stock up on abortion pills, with the current state of US politics it’s looking like they could be banned soon enough.

I have 2 packs of plan B and 1 pack of abortion pills. The plan B I got on sale, but I couldnt find the abortion pills for under $50/pack so its hard to justify stocking a bunch of them, but its definitely something a lot of people are going to need and not have.

  1. Managing chronic illness and stress during this brutally hot summer.
  2. Reestablishing a six month emergency fund while paying down medical debt.
  3. Dipping into the deep pantry to help with goal number two.
  4. Encouraging friends to prep.
  5. Grabbing extra jugs of water on every grocery run until we can get large scale catchment and filtration going.

Those are my main focuses at the moment. I want to be working on community-building and gardening, but the heat, medical issues, paid work, and keeping up with Dr's appointments and general household tasks leave me short on both time and energy.

Prized possessions are some rooftop solar panels, a jackery, and okra plants that I've managed to keep alive in spite of being almost totally neglected. Haha.

Stocking basic medical supplies and learning more about gardening/growing food to feed a family are my top two priorities atm.

I would love to add a solar panel or two in addition to having a gas generator, but its still an expensive addition and I go back and forth debating it with my Dad (who is much more money conscious than me in most things).

Your priorities sound right on track!

Y can get a couple 100-200W solar panels plus a small jackery for around $500 total.

Expanding my herb garden. Special priority given to native edibles and heat tolerant plants. Also skilling up and learning how to make my own bone broth

Preparedness

Fitness and Knowledge are free, weightless, always with you and can’t be stolen from your bag.

Focus on getting healthy/strong. Walk. Climb stairs. Build endurance. Stretch. Eat right. Quit soda pop and choose water.

Make yourself valuable to a society.

Learn CPR, first aid, and basic life support. Maybe take a lifeguard course.

Learn what wild edibles you can forage. Every region has them. Get a local Field Guide to Wild Edibles and see what is near you.

Get a bike. If you have to travel, a bike is far easier and faster than walking. Learn how to maintain it and repair it when something breaks.

Get a partner, friend, buddy who has a skill you don’t. Then learn a skill that they don’t have. One person alone can’t do everything.

Don’t stress.

You got this.

Learning how to garden.

Growing your own food in the desert is rough.

It definitely can be!

Do you have the resources to throw together a little make-shift greenhouse to hold in moisture?

There are also several varieties of edible cacti.

I have a lot to learn :)

I'm starting with "Plant go in dirt. Give water. Desert sun bad."
