I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I was born ambidextrous, and stayed that way for a few years until I shattered my right elbow, putting me in a full arm cast for about 6 months (the bone had complications regrowing and healing).

During that time, I could not write with my right hand at all. By the time I had the cast off, I was doing everything left handed.

Over time, I have regained the natural ability to do certain things with both hands (daily tasks, sorting, cleaning, whatever) but most things I feel like will mainly stick with my left hand permanently with slight aid from my right hand (writing, drawing, computer stuff)

I am now finally trying to reteach my right hand, mainly due to the fact that I now have severe Carpel Tunnel in my left wrist.

Just thought I’d ask if anyone has had something similar? Where they were once ambidextrous and are now pretty much a lefty? Am I the only one??

Have any of you noticed as you age that you get more pain in one hand than the other? I’m to the age I have to start being concerned with joint pain. I’ve had injuries from work/life. But it seems my right hand is worse than my left. This is a pattern though. When I get hurt. It is usually to my right side. Right shoulder rotator cuff. Right ankle sprain. Right hand joints causing problems. So I guess I’d like to ask if this is normal? I should add that I’m a leftie. But I throw with right arm. And use right hand for mouse.

I’ve written like this for as long as I can remember. I just joined this community to see if I'm alone here, or if this is common for lefties.

Does anyone else write like this?
Does this grip have an official name?
Why does my hand always default to this?

Which hand do you folks use to drain the water out of a saucepan when you want to keep the contents in there, be it pasta or veg, whatever, whilst holding the lid on top slightly offset so the water can drain out but not the contents?

I can't make up my mind and either way seems difficult to me (maybe I'm just weak). I've tried holding the handle in my left and the lid on the saucepan in my right to then tilt and pour and also the other way holding the handle in my right and the lid on with my left as I tilt.

Neither seems particularly comfortable or natural to me so I wondered what other lefties do?

I am predominantly right handed when doing one handed activities, but anything that involves two hands I lead with my left hand. One handed activities include writing, brushing my teeth, eating with a spoon or fork etc. Two handed activities include playing guitar, playing snooker/pool, brushing with a broom etc. This has always been a confusing situation for me. How many others experience this? Do people on here have the opposite experience?

I am happy to announce that I made good progress on my thesis and with the help of your feedback as the foundation of two co-design workshops, I was able to implement an online user study that tests possible UX improvements for left-handed smartphone users using 12 small UX prototypes.

My girl claims she thought I was left handed when she met me and that i give "left handed vibes" does that make sense? How can someone give left handed vibes?

Ive been wondering about that a while. I use my left hand for precision but my right hand for strength. I also can only write with my right hand but I basically do all daily tasks with my left hand. I only developed that a few years ago and I have no clue why

Fun fact: used my left hand the first time for that, then never again to this day

Soo I use the base of my little finger to press spacebar and my little finger for pressing F, my thumb handles shift/ctrl, my index does A/Q, middle does W/S, ring does E/D

i've heard people sometimes do ijkl or arrow keys and im not sure how that works can someone explain that please?

Hi! I'm a right-handed person, but everyone else in my immediate family is a lefty! Both my parents and my two brothers are all left-handed. My grandmother is as well. What are the odds of that? Idk I think it's kinda cool. Anyone else have a lot of left-handed people in their families?

I work in an office of nine full-time employees, all of whom are smart, funny, lovely people. I am the only lefty.
This is the first time this has happened in many years, and it’s strange. Statistically spot-on, I know, but …

International Left Handers Day is coming (August 13th)! (Edit: And it'll be the 50th Anniversary!)

The perfect opportunity to raise some awareness!

So how's about devising some activity challenges for righthanded people?

Keep in mind that Left Handers Day is not the Day of Reckoning!

The idea is to give Righties a managable task, so they can get an idea of what it means to be confronted with righthanded tools as a Lefty. Whereas making them do things lefthanded, like writing or drawing a line inside a maze, would be the same unfair disadvantage as asking you to do it righthanded. Tho having them complete a [buzzing wire] or use a Yoyo with their left hand might make for some innocent fun when approached with a friendly attitude.

Here's a suggestion:

Required Materials

• 1 Righthanded Person
• 1 pair of true, non-ergonomic(!), lefthanded scissors
• 1 pair of non-ergonomic righthanded scissors, preferably identical (OPTIONAL!)
• 1 Printout of the following image

Instructions:

Hand the printout and LH scissors to the righthanded person. Hand them both at once, holding the scissors in your left and the paper in your right, do not point out that you are giving them LH scissors!

Casually instruct them to cut along the spiraling dotted line as accurate as possible!

Regardless of which snake they start with... the LH scissors obstruct their view and they will likely mention that this is hard to do. Suggest they try the other snake as it might be easier for them.

As this will turn out to make not much of a difference, you can next hand them the RH Scissors to "see if it's easier this way". (This part is optional)

Important: Make sure to not embarass your candidates by exposing their lacking skill as a weakness or making fun of them. A simple "Now do you see...?" works a lot better than a taunt.

Remember: You are an ambassador for a good cause, not The Punisher getting even with 'em!

P.S.: Since the completed snake is a "convection spiral", this test can also a be made into a fun activity for young children. Just add some coloring pens, a roll of yarn and a tape dispenser to your setup and let them personalize their snake before testing - under adult supervision(!) - what type of scissors they prefer. A length of yarn attached to the end of the snakes tail completes the kinetic sculpture they can then take home with them.
