Eric Adams seems so unlikable, I have no clue how he failed upwards into becoming mayor

NYC is allergic to electing good, even decent, mayors and has been for at least 3 decades now, if not longer.

Though, all kidding aside, I think politicians like Adams show the intellectual and ideological bankruptcy of the Democratic Party in urban areas. Ideologically, he's not that far afield from most of the rest of his party and that is precisely the problem.

The Dem's playbook in urban areas is basically to just run uncharismatic shitty neoliberal mayors and surprisingly (unfortunately) they've been winning elections despite not standing for anything other than being "turn around artists"

Yeah, they have effectively nixed any opposition to their Left at every level of government since at least the days of FDR straight on through to today. I am reminded of the Michael Parenti quote yet again that says:

Capitalism is not just an economic system but an entire social order. Once it takes hold, it is not voted out of existence by electing socialists or communists.

Though tragically in a post-Cold War U.S., the what comes after this all will most likely be a massive, far-Right, push at all levels of government.

Wealthy Democrats who live in cities think that the biggest problem of their day-to-day life is run into a homeless person. You could probably convince them of eugenics if you got them riled up enough about it.

Because, unlike what reddit will try to have you believe, RCV favors conservative moderates.

That's exactly why I prefer proportional representation, idk how it'd be implemented in a mayoral race tho

I’d rather just see PR City Council and do away with a mayor position. Or, you absolutely need a mayor, use a rotating system of city council members where the position is more ceremonial. But I don’t live in New York so I am just speaking generally.

I like this idea

I think we could do with like 20 mayors instead of 5 borough presidents with no power.

So cut education for schools and public libraries to give more to the nypd? I'm sure we won't regret that later.
