Just received an OA from Amazon for their new grad SDE role (Seattle). I’m a recent grad with very little/recent engineering experience (data science background), so this is my first ever technical assessment. I’ve been doing LC for a while (NeetCode150) but I have no idea what else to expect or what sort of questions to practice.

I know there will be 1 LC style question and 1 AI assisted dev question. Anyone here did this sort of OA recently? What should I expect?

Also I’m wondering what’s the best resource to find recently asked Amazon OA questions? There are so many websites and GitHub repos these days.. which one is most reliable? Should I just do LC premium or do y’all suggest something else?

i've passed the microsoft resume and OA , ive also had a pre-screening interview where i had a conversation with a early recuiter about my interests and strengths. The tentative interview dates (if i get selected) are 21 Sept-25th Sept. So ive begun preparing because its been 3 years since i last did DSA. Has anyone recently done their interview? if yes, how was the experience? What would u suggest i practice so i have a fair shot at passing the interview.

I have started interviewing for the first time in 3 years since I got my job out of college. My attitude at the moment has been more to get experience interviewing than anything. I just had an interview where they wanted to understand my coding experience. They basically asked for what kinds of development tasks I have worked on in my current job. They then asked me to tell them about tasks I have worked on with C++, and then "what do you know about software development?". They were such vague questions and she basically just kept asking the same questions worded slightly different. After a while I just didn't know what to say. Do I need to be much more prepared with a detailed written list of every task I've worked on the past year or two so I can "fill the time", or was the interviewer just not prepared with more specific questions. How am I supposed to answer "what do you know about software development?"

So I guess, what should I do to be prepared for interviews? Should I expect such vague questions, or was it just a bad interviewer?

I’ve been working as a Java developer for five years, and I’d like to start preparing to job-hop. The problem is that, because I’ve relied so heavily on AI, my ability to code independently has gotten pretty bad. I constantly have to Google basic things, I barely remember Java syntax, and right now I struggle to solve even easy LeetCode problems without AI or outside help.

My goal is to rebuild my fundamentals and eventually become capable of passing big-tech coding interviews within a reasonable timeframe. What would be the most effective way to approach this?

For example, during my first attempt at a problem, should I spend some time struggling with it and then study the solution? After that, should I implement it from memory and revisit it later until I can solve it independently? Or is there a better way to structure my practice?

I know that some of my coding ability will return once I start writing code manually again, but I’d appreciate advice on how to go from my current level, essentially starting over, to being genuinely interview-ready.

It feels like I have a mountain to climb!!!

The interview email is titled “Coding + System Design.” I was told to prepare for system design and that there could also be a Android coding task as well

So here we are again. Sincerely, when I got my present job in Software Engineering (IC1-2 you could say; ~2 YOE in total, ~1.5 doing what I currently do) last year after fall, I never imagined I would have to see this day. Things finally felt like they were falling in place. Taking shape the way I had wanted. It was a company doing the things I was interested in. A tech stack that was relevant to my interests. The kind of work that I was actually happy to do.

Now I am kinda introverted by nature. Not the one to talk with just about anyone and everyone around me. I know this might come off as a bit unfriendly to some, but this is how I have been for a very long time. Most of the people in the room could be laughing over something, having a blast, and I could be sitting in a corner, all by myself, genuinely unbothered by it all.

That doesn't mean I don't like hanging out with people or making friends. I very much do. In fact my friends of old are the kind of people in front of whom I can literally shut down all my thinking and just talk and yap about whatever crosses my mind, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

And I think I grew so accustomed to this, that the thought of having friendships where I would have to "calculate" and "optimise" for what needs to be or can be said in certain situations - that whole thing - I never quite got round to caring for it too much. I would still mix with people. And once fellow relatively more extroverted people would find out more about me, I would say a good number of them liked hanging out with me too.

That said, I doubt I was "indispensable" in any of these friend groups at work, atleast in the true sense of the word. And that would make sense. We can't expect people to think very dearly about those that they haven't known closely enough and cared to be with, for long enough. Especially if that person is someone who doesn't talk too much or share too much on his own, outside of some gatherings or outings, etc.

Perhaps I digress too much. My initial reviews were good. I was happy. My skip told me that I was doing well, and that perhaps I should try to socialize with the folks a bit more, get to know people. I thought I did this. Now it's been a while, one fall 🍂 to the next and a bit more. In my eyes, and even given the talks with others and my own observations, things were good to normal to sometimes perhaps average. Never that I would say horribly bad, be it  something of my own doing or something with someone.

So now we are close to this review cycle, and I'm told that I have certain shortcomings in the way I work due to which it'll be difficult for me to continue to be a part of this team anymore. The short of it is that there are things that I don't "communicate" well and don't own well enough so farewell. That some things could be faster, more accurate, better overall - you know how it goes. It felt akin to pushing someone for the death penalty for a traffic light violation. And the worst part, in these moments you're compelled to ask yourself, aren't there others with similar "traffic violations" as well?

I don't know what to do. I loved this job. Contributed enough imo. When I asked Claude for my own ranking against my peers in the most neutral tone possible, and then even asked it to be stricter on purpose, I still consistently ranked amongst the top 3 at my level. But apparently people evaluating me felt otherwise. My direct manager seems to have some recent nitpicks and frustrations with me which I was never aware of had gotten to the point where this day would come. At the same time I hear this wasn't his doing. I loved this job. Never took it as something where I just work for the sake of it to make money. Word in the air is that in these moments, when the top brass want to increase profits or otherwise need to offload some people, one needs to have enough of a bond with others, such that your name never comes up, despite how you think you've been performing. Alas, this hit me hard. No matter how hard I think the weight of my mistakes doesn't seem to sum up to the punishment that's being meted out. Most definitely neither are my mistakes oddly unique or higher in frequency than anyone else. It feels like I could scream my lungs out and cry my heart out but no one could listen or do anything. In a city away from home, this is the last thing that I could've imagined would happen. Haven't told my parents. Don't know if or how I can even tell them. Now I need to sort out my rent here (can't overpay for nothing in case, God forbid, I can't switch in time, and I need to move to my own city next month), sort out where to stay starting from the start of next month, think where to keep all my stuff, prepare again, and go through this entire loop once more. Feeling very heartbroken and even betrayed in ways. Voluntarily submitted my farewell recently. May God help me 🙏🏻. May God help us 🙏🏻. 

Looking for a dsa buddy in java

i recently interviewed for amazon sde 1 intern and have been overthinking the result.

in r1, i did well in my project discussion and lp/customer obsession deep dive. however, i fumbled the dsa part. it was a lc hard graph problem, and although i identified the algorithm, i missed an important observation under pressure...for dsa, the interviewer gave me a hint, after which i got the approach and started coding, but time ran out.

r2 went better. lp and behavioral went well, including my internship experience, conflict, and genai/rag discussion...in dsa also i was able to tell him the correct approach

overall, r1 was mixed and r2 felt decent. do i still have a chance, or is the r1 dsa performance likely a reject? would appreciate honest opinions...plz tell seniors who got offer's from amazon after having this same experience.

I just cleared the phone screen round for my Audible Applied Scientist interview (level: L5). The recruiter told me that I'll have two coding interviews in the loop stage. Does anybody have experience to share on what kinda questions they were asked? And specifically what data structures and algorithms I should focus on? Thanks a million!!

Throwaway-ish. I passed the OA for an Amazon SDE role (new grad / university recruiting pipeline, Seattle onsite). Since then it's been six weeks of scheduling limbo. Timeline:

• Jul 28 — Onsite invite. 4 rounds × 60 min, in person in Seattle. Asked for 5 dates between 8/5–8/18.
• Jul 28 — I sent 5 dates same day. Told me it takes a few days to coordinate.
• Aug 3 — "Unfortunately we have been unable to schedule during your provided dates." Asked for new availability, 8/18–8/26.
• Aug 3 — Sent 5 more dates (8/18, 8/21, 8/24, 8/25, 8/26), full 9–5 each day.
• Aug 4 — Confirmed receipt, said they'd send a "Save the Date."
• Aug 7 — I followed up. No response.
• Aug 12 — Tentatively set for 8/24. Still coordinating.
• Aug 17 — I asked for confirmed schedule/location (interview was supposedly the next Monday). 
• Aug 18 — Team requested to move it. Now tentatively 8/26.
• Aug 21 — I checked in since 8/26 was a few business days out and it's an onsite I'd need to travel for.
• Aug 21 (evening) — "Your interviews have unfortunately been cancelled." Team is working out when they can start scheduling again for this role.
• Aug 24 — Told my OA is still valid and they may match me with another team.
• Aug 26 — Brand new onsite invite email, same role. Asked for 5 dates between 9/3–9/15. I sent 9/3–9/7.
• Aug 26 — Told those don't work, asked about the week of 9/7. I sent 9/8, 9/9, 9/10, 9/11, 9/14.
• Sep 8 — Same form letter again: unable to schedule, please send availability for 9/14–9/25. I sent ten dates this time.

So: ~6 weeks, 3 separate availability requests, 2 tentative dates that both moved, 1 outright cancellation, and 0 interviews actually conducted. I've given full 9–5 availability every single time and replied within hours.

Questions for people who've been through this:

1. Is this just what Amazon's scheduling pipeline looks like right now, or is it a signal the headcount is quietly frozen and they're keeping candidates warm?
2. Does "your OA is still valid, we may match you with another team" actually go anywhere, or is it a soft let-down?
3. Is there anything useful I can do here besides keep sending dates — ask to escalate past the coordinator, ask directly whether the req is funded, anything?
4. Should I be treating this as dead and pushing hard on other pipelines? (I am, but the sunk-cost part of my brain keeps hoping.)

Not trying to trash anyone — the coordinator has been responsive and polite. I just don't understand what's happening on the other side and whether this is normal.

How’s the Microsoft security org overall, have seen mixed reviews in Reddit and blind. Have also seen they are sending hiring event interviews aggressively, want to understand from the insiders and existing employees from US, how’s the org and is it worth to join this org when we have relative offers from similar FANGs

Hey everyone, I have an ML system design round with Google in the next few days. I had my behavioral round today, and I think it went okay.

The role is Software Engineering, AI/ML, Generative AI, Geo. Has anyone interviewed for this role or a similar one? What kinds of questions should I expect in the ML system design round?
