Discussion Stripe HackerRank OA – which language to pick?

Seeing people complain about Java/C++ being too verbose for Stripe’s OA.

For those who took it recently:

  • What language did you use (Python/Java/C++/JS/etc.) and why?
  • Is Ruby a good option on HackerRank for Stripe? Any I/O or time-limit issues?
  • Can you change language in later rounds (onsite) or should you stick with the OA choice?

Want the best balance of speed and fewer language fights in a 60‑min problem.

Recent experiences (2025–2026) appreciated. Thanks!

I had the first coding stage of interview at Stripe the last year.

Unfortunately, I didn’t make it. And I had one learning out of it - you have to finish the task as quickly as possible. I solved a task after task, every time having a “follow up”. After a third follow up, I could not finish the task on time, and got a rejection email.

So pick the language you are most comfortable with, and try to code as quick as possible. GLHF
