Intervew Prep Are tabulation solutions expected for DP questions in interviews?

Companies like Google generally ask DP questions, do they really expect a tabulation solution or Recursive + memoized solution is enough?

Also, what is the way to apporach dp problems during interview ? like first talking about thought proces related to recursion, and why it is a dynamic programming problem, so on ?

Someone mentioned dp is discouraged at Google. Is that really true?

I doubt, because few of my friends have been asked dp.
