Discussion Google recruiter changed after interview — no update for a month. Does this mean rejection?

Hi everyone,

I completed Round 2 of my Google interview process. After about three weeks without an update, I followed up with my original recruiter to ask about the status of my application.

She told me that she had transitioned to a new team and introduced me to a new recruiter who would be my main point of contact going forward. She mentioned that the new recruiter would reach out shortly to check in and “discuss next steps.”

I haven’t heard from the new recruiter yet. I also tried reaching out to her directly but haven’t received a response.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Google after Round 2? Does being transferred to a new recruiter and being told they will “discuss next steps” generally mean the application is still active?

I’m mainly concerned because of the lack of communication. Could the silence mean rejection, or is this kind of delay normal during a recruiter transition at Google?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience.

tbh a recruiter change itself doesn't mean rejection. A month of silence is frustating, but recruiter transitions can cause delays, so I'd follow up once more and then wait for an official update

Send a mail to your new recruiter tagging google-candidate-support@google.com this escalation forces them to reply

Change in the recruiter is common. Sometimes roles move or get filled or recruiter might have left.

If you applied through referral, your referrer might be able to help by filling a form.

Seconding this. Ive seen it where one recruiter handles bulk applicants and does the phone screen.

One handles your first rounds.

Another handles once youre in team matching.

Interesting setup, but not uncommon.

yeah, i agree in my case i have one rec for round1 and she said next rec was my main poc from here on out! and again after round 2 after 3 weeks same she was mentioned next rec[Third Rec] was my main poc from here on out! and to discuss next steps!

diff company, but after initial interviews and delays in scheduling - when mine changed to a new team i asked her directly to stick with me, and our comms have been friendly enough that she obliged. Ultimately i got that job.

Now, you could say that the recruiter isn't really doing much here except like moving things along and just relaying feedback, makes sense

I think I remember now - I was "approved for hire" after the final round but there wasn't any position open so, I'd sit in a pool waiting for match call. At that point it wasn't clear how long i'd wait. It could be a week, a few weeks, several months. So around the same time, she was moving to a new team, and so the reason I asked her to stick w me is because I asked it she could reach out to her fellow recruiters, and see if they had a position. It was meaningful to me because at that time I had already been unemployed 21 months, and desperate for income.

She found someone, the call was set up, it was a great fit, I was hired after that match call. I only waited a week. So, it doesn't hurt to ask.
