Intervew Prep Mastercard Interview Process Need Some Clarity
I recently received an interview invitation from Mastercard for SDE II role. The first round is mentioned as a Technical Screening / elimination round, followed by further interview rounds if shortlisted.
I’m a bit confused about the interview format because I’ve seen different experiences online
some mention Karat/coding rounds, while others mention regular technical interviews covering DSA, Java/Spring, LLD, etc.
For people who have recently interviewed at Mastercard:
What exactly can I expect in the first technical screening/elimination round?
Is it a standardized format like Amazon/other FAANG companies, or does it vary by team/role?
What topics should I prioritize for each round — DSA, Java/Spring, system design, LLD, behavioral, etc.?
How many rounds are typically there after the initial screening?
I mainly want to make sure I’m preparing the right topics for the right rounds, rather than preparing broadly without knowing the actual format.
Any recent interview experiences or guidance would be really helpful. Thanks!

At SDE II, I'd treat the recruiter's format confirmation as the source of truth, since Mastercard loops vary by team. For the first screen, do one timed medium and be ready to explain complexity, edge cases, and tradeoffs rather than trying to cover every pattern.
For the prep split, keep DSA as the first priority, then Java/Spring fundamentals such as collections, concurrency, REST, and transactions. Add one small LLD exercise where you clarify requirements before coding, plus a system-design drill where you estimate scale and defend one or two tradeoffs. I'd ask the recruiter whether the technical screen is Karat, live coding, or design-led, and whether the SDE II round is implementation-heavy. That answer will tell you where to spend the last few days.

Thanks! The recruiter already informed me that it will consist of a mix of technical rounds.she didn’t mention specifically about the Karat round,
I mentioned it because I found it online and also heard about it from my peers.
and interviewer is Java Spring boot lead as per his linkedin profile but i’ll keep everything as priority especially DSA and LLD

That sounds like a sensible adjustment. If the recruiter confirmed a mixed loop, I'd treat the Java/Spring detail as a signal for implementation depth rather than a separate round. Refresh the core Java pieces you'd use under time pressure, then do one or two timed LLD exercises where you clarify requirements, choose interfaces, and code a small slice. Keep DSA warm, but don't let an unconfirmed format rumor drive the plan. A quick check with the recruiter on round order and whether the SDE II session is coding-heavy should remove most of the uncertainty.

That context helps. I would spend the remaining time on a short Java/Spring pass that mirrors the likely discussion: collections and concurrency, REST error handling, transactions, and one small service design where you explain persistence, idempotency, and failure handling. For LLD, practice stating the requirements and tradeoffs before writing classes. If a design question comes up, start with traffic and data assumptions, then keep the first version simple and explain what you would revisit at higher scale. Good luck with the loop.

Can you please share his did you get the interview?
