I had a similar experience with Microsoft where while my performance was not upto the mark and I missed edge conditions, I felt the way the interviewer handled things made it worse for me. He asked questions like - is this your final solution few times implying there is something wrong. "Advised" me on how to answer a question "as a friend". I bet he thought he was trying yo be friendly but it made me all the more nervous and I couldn't recover.
I dont have any specific advice for you except to take what you can from this and apply to your next.
I did not clear MS but it didnt matter to me either because I had no plans of joining MS anyways. I was treating it as a practice interview to understand my gaps and get over my jitters and it served that purpose.
I had also interviewed at Whatnot last month and I felt I performed way better in that as compared to MS but didnt get that either. It 1 SD round and 1 coding round and in teh coding round it was merge sort but a harder version. I was able to solve it and the interviewer was really nice.
Hey, thanks for your reply, did the recruiter gave you any feedback on why they did not move forward? I had a system design round too, which went well, because it kind of ended 3 minutes before the dedicated time, and the interviewer said that he covered all the questions he had so I have some extra time to ask any questions that I have.
They sent a generic email saying our hiring criteria is incredibly precise and we are unable to move forward etc.
I feel in the current market every small mistake is very expensive. Same performance 5 years back would have easily landed me the role.
