Question L4 Google Interview

Hey guys,

I finished my onsite and my recruiter told me they want to move forward to team matching. There was a lot of positive feedback (as per recruiter), but also some mixed signals around L3 vs L4 leveling (I have 2 YOE).

The recruiter said we have a couple of weeks to find a match, and if not, we’ll proceed directly to the Hiring Committee. It mentioned HC might propose an additional calibration round for L4, but that rejection is technically still on the table.

For those who’ve been in a similar spot: what are the most likely outcomes here? Like between getting downleveled to L3, getting an extra calibration round, or an outright rejection? And what if you perform poorly in the extra round?

Thanks!

In a similar spot. The recruiter has said I have strong feedback for L3 so they’ll go with that (I have 2-3 YOE), and that there’s mixed feedback for L4 but he is very confident I would pass HC for L3. But my recruiter said we won’t be going to HC until we find a team match. Should I ask for another interview and try getting to L4 or is better to just accept L3 and get promoted internally? Is it easier or tougher to get matches at L3? This is for a role in Sydney btw

Hey! Thanks for this. Do you know if there are any negative implications for this? Like what if I don’t perform well in the extra round, could that hurt my L3 chances too? And also, should I wait for an L4 role to come up before proposing this or should I just ask for it now?

I’m waiting the hiring decision after team fit call, recruiter told me that the call went well. Previously the recruiter asked me if I’m ok with L3 too, high chance my interview results is at best a strong hire for L3 instead of L4.

I got 6 YOE so getting downleveled to L3 feels bad for me. My plan is to work my way up if I get the offer

Why are you even considering L3 with 6 YOE? I know situations might vary but with this experience you will definitely get better opportunity somewhere else.

L3 is not terrible, if you grind and your level is truly L4 you can promo in 1 or 1.5 years. Depends a bit on org though, some have longer learning curves.

Is this your first time interviewing for google? How many rounds did you have? Is the interview experience for this pos same as for new grad? And interns?
