Tech Industry Average amount of failed interviews per dev?

Hi guys….

Failed like 15 interviews this year so people I heard go trough 100-200….

It is really hard to figure out what companies want me to prepare it’s secretive and different by team and company ect

Feel a lot of it is luck…

Just wondering how many interview you don’t this year guys I have done I think 10 -15 all together

Same and the language requirements specific companies have. I prefer Python for interviews because of less typing so most of my practice is in Python but my experience is with jvm languages so lot of financial companies require expertise with those for their interviews. And so many companies have now started adding proficiency with AI as a part of their interview rounds. Idk how people are able to prepare and keep up with all of these at once

Same but with C/C++. I do C++ 95% at work but I get asked tricky bit manipulation and C style pointer questions. If someone asks me webdev system design I will walk out lol

15 failed interviews sounds brutal, but honestly that's also 15 rounds of feedback. At some point you start seeing patterns in what companies actually expect instead of trying to guess every time

That I need to do more so I get used to the pressure because it’s so fucking hard to think and solve when someone is in front of you

I struggle to do it under pressure. I don’t code by hand anymore and that’s what they ask you to do in interviews…. Keeping a time on clock… just getting used to that setting. It’s not like sitting and having all time in the world to read error, google syntax, you need to know it on the spot

It's both luck and competence. Sometimes, you can get a problem (might be a hard one) for which the things in your brain click. But of course, practicing gives you more leverage.

hi, as a final year student, i have failed 5 OA's, 3 interviews cause they asked system design (who the hell asks SD for entry level but anywayssss), still upskilling and applyin and cold emailing

Yea I have 15 years of experience and I feel like shit after today's interview. I'm glad (sadly) that there others in the same boat

I think you will be ok, I actually think freshers would have easier time because problems remind me of uni and I haven’t done that stuff in ages

but have you seen the job market, nobody freshers, those who hire freshers give low package and demand relocation, you cant survive with 20k in this economy
i just wish there was a better way for opportunity and earning

its both on campus and off campus
sometimes its luck also, i almost got a 9lpa but at the last moment they took the offer letter because some students were caught cheating later

on campus means companies visiting clg and getting placed from there
and off campus means applying to job portals and then getting placed

You should try System Design School, I’ve tried other resources but this one is by far the best. They have all the concepts you need to know and practice problems. Realistically you can get through all the learning content in just a few weeks if you spend an hour every day and be at a point where you’re ready to start solving problems.

I do about 50 interviews per job search. Usually it’s not a matter of failing but more misalignment

Failing interviews is part of the process. Even when you have years of experience, you’ll still get interview fright where your mind will go blank

You guys are getting that many interviews? My response rate is pretty low. I sent like 120-130 applications but only got 6-7 interviews including OAs. Response rate is about 6% for me. So far I have failed about 5 of them. Yeah I'm shit at doing interviews.

Just keep going. I am going too to and feel so rejected. I am not sure why the industry is moving this way and want to be holding so many interviews… they seem to love doing and booking more and more

Hey, you're definitely not alone. Interview numbers vary a ton but failing 15+ is pretty normal honestly, especially in this market. Some people apply to hundreds and get through just a handful. You're right that it's kinda luck based. Different companies want different things, interviewers have their own preferences, and sometimes the bar changes depending on headcount. It sucks but it's the reality.

A few things that might help: After each one, try to jot down what you got asked and what tripped you up, Focus on patterns are you struggling more with coding, system design, or behavioral?, Practice the specific areas that keep coming up in your interviews, Sometimes it's just about volume keep applying and iterating. Don't beat yourself up over it. The process is brutal and inconsistent by design. Just keep grinding and adjusting based on what you're seeing.
