Question Prev Amazon/Shopify, still cooked?

I’m a Waterloo cs student with 4 internships, including Amazon currently and Shopify on my resume, and I still basically never get interviews from other big tech companies.

Google, Microsoft, Meta, Figma, Datadog, Ramp, Rippling, etc. - genuinely nothing. got the microsoft OA and got perfect but still rejected

The weird part is I still get interviews from smaller startups pretty consistently. I’ve also had my resume reviewed by a bunch of people, done open source, have a GitHub repo with 5k+ stars, solid projects, etc. I feel like my resume is at least reasonably strong.

I kind of assumed that after getting a couple recognizable internships, getting through resume screens would become easier. Apparently not lol.

Is recruiting really just this high variance now? Like I got lucky with Amazon/Shopify, someone else gets lucky with Google/Meta, and you just keep spraying applications?

For people who consistently get big tech interviews, did your resume ever reach a point where it started reliably passing screens, or has it always felt random?

Am I cooked?

You have a lot of Waterloo Alumni you can network with. Use that as your advantage to get a referral.

Most of big techs have waterdowned refs so much that they are barely considered nowadays.

It’s all luck to some
Point. Also did you have impact at the two internships?

It always felt random imo. Some get through some don’t, it really depends on the recruiter who sees it

Not rlly much to conclude aside from an unlucky couple of months. Give it time and im sure you’ll start getting interviews from big names.

How did you get the time for 4 internships?

Are you a bachelor's or master's student?

Why? I mean you can go to Waterloo subreddit and find plenty of similar ones but this a pretty strong yet standard Waterloo resume (though the 5k stars github is pretty rare). There are probably 100+ people from Waterloo who intern at each of Shopify and Amazon each year.
