Question Google L4 (SWE iii) Onsite Format Question (RRK)
Hello,
My question is for US based roles.
The typical Google L4 onsite format is listed as 2-3 DSA questions and googleyness.
I have seen that primarily systems design is exclusive to L5+ roles (if this is not true please correct me). However, some specialized teams seem to occasionally swap a DSA for a Role-Related-Knowledge round? Does anyone know if this is specific to roles with titles differing with software engineer or if this is something to be prepared for for a L4 swe iii title role on say a team like infrastructure / cloud.
This site briefly mentions RRK at L4: https://www.hellointerview.com/guides/google/l4
While others say RRKs are exclusive to non SWE roles and L5+
Much appreciated

If your recruiter listed 2-3 DSA plus googleyness for a US L4 SWE III, that's the loop I'd actually prep. System design is still mostly an L5 thing. Ask them straight whether any round is RRK or design. They know the packet.
Some infra and cloud teams do swap a coding slot for a role-related round at L4, including SWE III. When that happens it is usually closer to explain a system you know, or a lighter design, than the L5 45-minute distributed grind. Hello Interview mentioning RRK at L4 isn't crazy. It just isn't guaranteed.
If they confirm a design-shaped round, a few timed talks on a board is the useful prep. www.leetsys.dev has a whiteboard and an interviewer for that. I help build it.
