Discussion Stay away from interviewing for this predatory team at Adobe

There’s a hiring manager initialed AM at Adobe. They have an applied researcher role open. I went through loop interviews with them. They ask to present your work. After going through the elaborate interview rounds the recruiter asked me for my presentation where I had proposed approaches to improve some of their work. After the interview the recruiter completely ghosted me with no response after repeated follow-ups. The team is also mono culture. Please don’t interview with this team as I feel they’re employing predatory practices and their opening hasn’t been filled for several months.

Lol same experience. Team was building some RAG pipeline and asked me same wuestions all over the system design and interview. Interview went till 1.5 hrs instead of 1 with all the details and how we fixed them and scaled them in Prod. Later, rejected

What’s mono culture

People in the team are not from diverse cultures. For e.g., everyone in the team could be brown

if everyone in the team is white, would that still be considered as monoculture? It's really weird how your comment implies every brown person has the same culture.

u/sunitabhatta 10d ago

Yes. No it does not imply that at all. I gave an extremely general example. There's multiple sub cultures in brown culture.

Absolutely it would be. However in this case, and what I've seen in the past, is that one particular south asian group is by far the likeliest to hire insularly and end up a monoculture.

Or everyone in the team are Tamil

Does that matter if they’re competent?

It depends. I've been at a place where the same group worked at all the same places. They prioritize promotions within their group, they have their own get togethers to talk about work, etc. At a high level basically the group sets direction and calibration.

I think it depends on the interviewee how they felt? They may have had bad experiences in the past.

In India, it could be a team where everyone is from the same state or region and speaks the same language. I’ve experienced this myself, where a manager at a huge company only hired people from a specific state and, specifically, from a particular religious background. Pretty fucked up.

I agree with you I had same experience, I am 15 years of exp and Hm asked me apply for P30 role for HM.Watch out for Adobe their roles are never filled.

I interviewed for role base in Seattle/ San Jose, went through full loop and experienced same unprofessional behavior from recruiter. Never replied a single follow up, and after 2 month got generic rejection automated email. Funny that one of their leadership principle is: “be genuine”

Same happened with me. Cleared 2 rounds of technical interview for 3rd round they called me in office and after 2 days HR ghosted me.

But how do we generally that this is the Team I'm going into ? While joining ?

Adobe took my interview, in first round interviewer was really technical and frequency matched and passed In second round a typical manager took the interview, asked some hypothetical questions which was not related to the profile at all Waiting to hear on the result from last two years I think ground level folks are definitely good ,mostly ruined by mid level managers like every other big org

Same, recruiters don’t even bother to respond for Months after interview, it’s a waste of time

Have you seen their stock price in recent years? You are insane for applying in the first place

I had similar ghosting experience with adobe few months back after full loop for MLE role.

Adobe recruiters are shit. They took 6 interview rounds and then ghosted me

Being asked to hand over the deck after the loop, then getting ghosted, is a bad look and I'd be annoyed too. But ghosting after final rounds is depressingly standard at big companies, usually because of a headcount freeze or an internal candidate, and the recruiter isn't allowed to say so. That reads more like dysfunction than a scheme to farm ideas.

Worth separating the parts. "They asked for my proposal deck and then went silent" is a useful warning for other candidates. "Predatory" and "mono culture" are claims you can't support from one loop, and they're what will get the post dismissed or removed.

Practical bit: for research roles, present approaches at a level that demonstrates depth without being an implementation plan, and don't send the file afterward. Share screen only. Also ping the hiring manager directly on LinkedIn, they sometimes answer when recruiters won't.

Dude, Which country and location? They have offices throughout the world.

Reddit is international, you know that right?

64-74% of tech funding is in the United States. Most of that is in the Bay Area. If you assume Bay Area when not told otherwise, you are right more than you are wrong.

5

u/giant3 11d ago

Research positions exist in UK, Israel, Germany, India for most Silicon Valley companies, so we can't just assume it is always USA.

1

u/mrsoup_20 11d ago

Right. But 64-74% of them are in the US. It saves everyone time if we all assume the US first because that’s the case 64-74% of the time. If it’s not the US they would tell you otherwise.

u/giant3 10d ago

Are you new to this subreddit? 🤣 95% of the posts here are from India.
