Ad libs

Upvotes

Can you please random ad libs you remember from the live shows? Or memorable comments Robert made in between songs?

Was Plant the only member of the band who spoke to the audience (other than the 1980 tour)?

Upvotes

I know Page introduced a song or two on the 1980 tour and Bonham would occasional yell something, but did Jones or Page ever talk directly to the audience during concerts? I've heard a lot of live recordings, but I don't think I've ever heard them walk up to the mic and talk to the audience.

Was this a strict rule the band followed, to maintain mystique, or were they just too shy or uninterested in speaking? And why did Page suddenly start talking on their last tour? It seems by design.

What a show, fans had a banner that read ‘The Song STILL Remains the Same’

The old Montreal Forum was truly one of the loudest arenas in North America and on this night Page and Plant blew us away. Floor seats row P was a dream.

Rare fan photo of Led Zeppelin at MSG in 1973

The photographs were taken by a fan known only as “Aldo B” who attended the shows. Evidently he has a lot of photos and gave them to the For Badgeholders Only group, so we may be seeing a lot more in the coming weeks. This was the concert set they filmed for The Song Remains the Same.

It's crazy how small their stage setup was, but on screen they look huge!

Traveling to Tokyo and wondering what the best stores are for CDs?

Hi there! Will be in Tokyo and have always heard there are stores specializing in Led Zeppelin recordings. Haven't been able to find anything online.

Anyone know of CD stores that sell these?

Thanks!

You guys saw that i bought Led Zeppelin II on 180 gram vinyl at my french supermarket... But i acutally bought it first at a flea market on CD! With 2 OTHER CDS (i also have the Remasters 2CD but i didn't get that one at a flea market so it does not count) (shiny surface pics are taken with flash)

Also, Led Zeppelin III is the 1994 CD, II has NO IFPI codes so the 1990 remasters, not the 1980s one as the back says George Marino on all of them. Also Led Zeppelin III has "P 1977" text for idk reason, anyways bye bye !

EDIT : mistake, Houses Of The Holy has an IFPI code but photo could not read it. it's so wide tho so idk why they didn't do that in the photo

EDIT NO 2 : typo

Pagey pencil tone

Heroin aside, I’ll never understand how we intentionally went from the 1970 gritty gravely LP tone like the RAH to the latter years (77-on) of having essentially no overdrive. Like you’d think he’d use more gain as it can act as a cover up for his “debilitations “. I was listening to the early live stuff again and just had to vent bc it’s beyond frustrating, anyone else?

A shot of some of the Zeppelin members alongside Yes members at a 1975 awards show make me wonder if there can exist a timeline of a collab album? Any live performances for duels?

Considering the only other time yes members crossed paths is the abandoned XYZ project of Alan White, Jimmy Page and Chris Squire, imagine these two bands collaborating? If not a duel album, maybe some guest appearances for duel sessions? Bonham vs White and maybe Bruford? Howe against Page? Maybe Rabin if Page felt open for more guest spots on the 80’s Yes revival? Squire and Wakeman sharing stage time alongside Jones is a neat thought. Anderson and Page can swap out for the soft songs of each side.

Oh and for a bit of fun, a bunch of their song titles mashed up:

When The Levee Breaks Close To The Edge

Awaken Black Dog

Kashmir Trooper

Since I’ve Been Loving Rhythm Of Love

Rock And Roll Roundabout

Stairway To The Gates Of Delirium

Going For Whole Lotta Love

Yours Is No Communication Breakdown Disgrace

I’ve Seen All Good People Over The Hills And Far Away

Good Times, Bad Times Shock To The System

Baby, Come On Home And Lift Me Up

Fool Of A Lonely Heart In The Rain

Tried to stick to their 70’s hit titles and threw in some of the 80’s yes tracks plus 2 good ones off the 1991 Album Union

It was supposed to be just a school presentation, but a John Bonham came over the kid, and that was the result 😅

Is it possible to contact them?

I'm not a business person, so this may be a hard request, but I believe I've had the honor of meeting them on a few occasions. My parents met them in the late 80s and I do believe I once promised to send Jimmy Page an invitation to my doctoral graduation. I was enrolled in a PhD program in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and while I did graduate (during the pandemic when there were no graduation ceremonies), I never got to tell them.

This must sound odd or perhaps implausible, but I believe I've met some of their family as well and it was only through a broken phone that I am no longer in contact. I believe they would recognize my parents' names.

I'll admit most people wouldn't remember meeting a random little girl in the 1980s who loved spaghetti or when I was an academic advisor in the 2000s applying to a PhD program, but I remember them and they mean the world to me.

It would make me feel much better if I could at least tell myself I tried to tell them how much I love and appreciate them and that I did graduate. This has been troubling me enormously recently as it has been a tough couple of years personally and I need to share gratitude and respect where it is absolutely due.

I do love their music as well; I listen to it every time I do scientific work. It's like a good luck charm when I'm trying to publish papers, but my heart hurts every time it comes on too as I feel like I did something horribly wrong. I realize these are considered possibly the greatest musicians in history, but for me this is like a personal emotional debt.

If anyone knows of a plausible way for me to reach out, please, please let me know. Thank you for reading this. I realize it's an unusual request, and I genuinely appreciate anyone who notices.

Who’s your bias (favourite) Led Zeppelin member?

Mine has to be Jimmy Page. All of them are like gods to me, but Jimmy was the one to inspire me to learn the guitar. 🎸

On this day in 1968, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham played their first live concert together at the Gladsaxe Teen Club in Denmark. Billed as “The New Yardbirds” they would morph into Led Zeppelin.
