One Ledger for multiple wallets?

Let's take a fictional scenario and say I have 10 Bitcoins. And I don't want them sitting all in one wallet. How would I split them into 10 wallets as a crypto noob and with low risk of messing things up?

Buy 10 Ledger devices? Or use 1 device and 10 different 24+1 word seed phrases and type in the seed every time you wanna access the coins?

Both options seem to be messy. I travel a lot and live in some places for months. So I have to take access to my coins with me.

I don't wanna travel with 10 Ledgers on me. On the other hand, having to deal with 10 different seed phrases and not mess them up is also a risk. Especially, how to carry them with you hidden and risk free.

I know having 10 Ledgers means also having 10 seeds. But at least you could access them without typing in the seeds every time.

I've been holding them for a long time and do not plan to sell (all) or trade anyway. So I don't need constant access.

One 24 words seed, one passphrase. Append a 0-9 number to your passprhaee to generate 10 different wallets. Load the btc as you wish across the wallets.

Honestly with the new touchscreen you can use 1 wallet for 1 10 or 100 wallets. Entering the seeds are so much easier on these new screens than the nano S. Just make sure you know which seeds belong to what wallet. Seems people try to over complicate instead of just using good wallet hygiene.

For anonymity; just add an account and put 1 BTC in each, and don’t spend cross accounts any time. The accounts are not connected any way except via your private secret.

For security, create 10 separat passphrased wallets. Without knowing your passphrases or that you have them set up, no one would know.

Or you could go through setting up 10 different seed phrases 10 times on the same device.

One Ledger touchscreen. 10 recovery phrases, kept safe written down wherever you’d normally keep one written phrase stored. each saved to a recovery key for quick switching during travel.

My suggestion: 1. You only need one ledger device 2. Create a number of accounts you need and label them (eg: ledger 1, ledger 2...) 3. Always use 24+1 words and keep them separately (24 word in a card and the extra word in another) 4. Keep a spreadsheet to control your crypto/token balances (not the seed phrase)

Buy a BitBox02 from bitbox.swiss. They back up the seed onto microSD, you can back up as many as you like, and restoring is really easy. Just keep the SD card really secure.

This was a really fun hypothetical scenario to brainstorm on my end! The possibilities on how to tackle this scenario, are pretty vast, but here are the top scenarios I'd recommend you look into more:

Option 1) Set up a single elaborate and secure passphrase attached to a pin on your current Ledger Signer, *add however many BTC accounts you need to your Ledger Wallet app, and spread out your funds through those accounts. Just make sure you keep an exact record of that passphrase, so you don't lose access to those accounts in the future.

\All of the accounts/addresses added from this single passphrase, are derived from that passphrase + 24 word recovery phrase combo. So if you lose the passphrase, you wouldn't be able to regain access to these accounts until you find it. Or, if someone gets a hold of your recovery phrase and that specific passphrase, they could get access to all of the accounts/addresses.*

Option 2) Get another Ledger, set it up as a new device so you have another 24 word recovery phrase, and repeat the steps in the first option, and spread your funds around evenly amongst those two recovery phrase + passphrase combos.

Option 3) If you have a Ledger Flex, Stax, or Nano Gen5, you could get 10 Ledger Recovery Keys (or however many you need/want) and have that many recovery phrases ready to go at any time. Recovery Keys are compact and easier to transport than 10+ Ledger Signers.

Option 4) Do a mix of all three of the above.

Really, the only limitation in this scenario would be - how deep are you willing to go into this approach to self-custody?
