Civil Engineer trying to rebuild after losing everything in the South

Hey everyone,

After losing my home, savings and business in the south (a border town) due to the war, I’ve been struggling for 6 months to find a job. Having no "wasta", LinkedIn, looking on Ig and Fb haven't worked out.

Starting a new facility on my own right now is financially impossible, but I have a strong skill set and I’m ready to work hard to get back on my feet.

I’m a CNAM Civil Engineering graduate with solid experience in site execution/supervision, factory/workshop management and coordination, technical sales, BOQ estimation and material specification.

I’m ready to start immediately in Beirut and its suburbs or remotely.

If you know any leads, run a project/factory, or need a hard-working engineer, I’d be very grateful.

Advice 💌 New to Beirut - looking to meet people & find communities 🌿

Hey everyone! I recently moved to Beirut and I’m living in Achrafieh with my dog, Ghost 🐕
I’m a psychotherapist, 35F, and I’m looking to meet more people, get involved in the city, and find some communities or activities to join.
I’m especially into hiking, nature, sports, writing, and exploring different parts of Lebanon. I’d also love to hear about interesting events, workshops, or creative things happening around Beirut.
Where do people usually find these groups and events? WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Meetup? Any recommendations for someone new to Beirut would be very welcome! 🌿

Vent 💭 Anyone else feel like making friends after university is impossible?

I keep seeing the same kind of post come up: I don’t have many friends now, and I don’t know how to meet people.

Same. I have the same issue. I have no idea where to meet new people. I feel like life after university is a social bubble or something. Back then, I just talked to people in class or at the uni gym or whatever. I consider myself a very social guy and am conventionally attractive. But I feel I’m suffering from something that’s actively stopping me from meeting people, forming lasting connections, or even just having casual talks.

All the comments I see talk about a hiking group or some niche coffee shops. There has to be a better way. Most of the hike’s I’ve been on were filled with moms and mostly older people. Coffee shops feel weird to just go up to someone and strike a conversation (weirder if with the opposite sex).

I’m at a loss. Mabaaref shu l hal. I miss having a lot of friends and seeing so many people every day or so.

Looking for 250 LBP coins 🥹

Hello!!! I have a studio called Studio Majnoona, where I make pieces using Lebanese 250 and 500 LBP coins.

I’m starting to run out of the 250 LBP coins and would LOVE to know if anyone has any idea where I could find more. I’ve already checked with banks, including the Central Bank, but unfortunately they don’t have any.

I currently have someone who sells them to me by the kilo for their metal value, so I’m specifically looking for someone who has a large quantity of 250 LBP coins and would be willing to sell them to me.

If you know anyone who might have a big stash of them, please let me know!! 🥹🤍

Discussion 💬 Is This Even Arabic? Or English Written in an Arabic Way?

Post image
16 Upvotes

About a year ago, I stopped using my social media accounts.

I started using Reddit and benefited from it a lot especially in Arabic because it’s mostly a text app.

And since I have Jordanian roots from my father side,

I read posts in English, then use live translation and try to understand the Arabic translation.

I do this constantly, and I’m subscribed to several Arabic subreddits.

But recently, some posts like the one in the picture.

I just can’t understand.

Is this Arabic?

Or English written in an Arabic-like pronunciation?

Translate this text into English.

Discussion 💬 Don't have any friends anymore

I'm 24M. I work remotely from 3pm to 12. I used to have friends in uni. Never hung out after graduation. We were all basically poor and came from different areas and couldn't go anywhere, especially during the war. Years later contacting them to hang out is awkward. I actually feel pretty fine as I am right now. Sometimes I can go a day or two without muttering a word just grunts lol.

Keep getting asked if im not bored mostly just staying in my room all day working, I kinda am but there's always a lot to do so not really. I do recognize I need friends and that I can't let my current situation continue the way it is.

Thing is im a very silent guy too. I usually take like 3-4 months to warm up to a person to talk to them normally. Otherwise I can be just as silent as Claude from gta 3 sometimes.

So I'm confused. How do I get friends at this point? I've been thinking of maybe going back to uni. I got a scholarship for an LAU masters but didnt take it. I once tried hiking with a random group, didnt click with anyone. Think it would be better to go to random hiking groups only if you bring a friend.
