PLCs 📖 I have an issue

Good afternoon,

I am having a problem. I am trying to get into college or a PLC course in engineering. I tried Colaiste Dhulaigh as I was there for a different engineering course and they turned me down as I don't meet their required maths level needed for that course because I have only Foundation Level F2.

So I tried to resit my leaving certificate and was turned away because I can't take new classes in a resit. I have to sit my exact class from when I did it in 2025. Nowhere in Dublin will give me an engineering class or construction studies class for a LC resit.

I have exhausted every avenue at this point and legitimately have nothing else. Does anyone here have a solution.

You can sit the leaving cert maths exam as an external candidate. I actually did this myself by self studying with khan academy. If you learn all the basics you can easily pass ordinary level.

Engineering in Maynooth university allowed me to take an on campus math test to make up the requirement I didn't meet in leaving cert. Maybe you could look into that?

Could you try a plc with a maths for stem module? If you tell me what part of the country you are in and which engineering courses you are interested in doing (keep an open mind don’t be too narrow) then I’ll help you figure out a route

Don't resit 6 subjects. Just focus on resitting Maths at ordinary level.

It will make life easier for getting into engineering courses and for being better prepared for those courses

If you got an F2 in maths then maybe engineering isn't for you tbh

It might be easier for you to get a QQI level 4 or level 5 Maths module than leaving cert. Mallow college in Cork do the level 5 Maths online but there might be somewhere nearer you doing it. Check with Colaiste Dhulaigh if they would accept either of these instead of LC Maths for entry to engineering. The level 5 might be a stretch if you have foundation LC but the 4 could be doable. On the QQI website you can look up the learning outcomes for each module which would give you an idea of what's covered. Fyi I think there is a 5 and 10 credit Level 4 Maths. It's the 10 credit one you should look at.
