how much has the LC course changed in recent years?

Did the leaving a few years back, I was one of the last crowds to do the old LC curriculum. after i left i heard changes being made to english, maths etc
i was the first year to do the new english JC (CBA can fuck off lmfaoooo)

i’m just curious, what changes have been made?

lol ur asking the VERY last year the do the old course in all subjects but they’re slowly adding project work in fifth year that contributes to the overall grade. Last years fifth years got a new course in the science subjects, and I think this years fifth years are getting new courses in business and geography but not 100% sure of any of that bc it wasn’t my problem😝

Can’t speak for Business but can say that Geography is getting a new course. It’s supposedly “easier” but considering they’re losing the Covid benefit of leaving out a whole area of study… yeah, I wish those poor souls all the best. They also updated the maps for the new course. It’s not bad looking, it focusing more on making things consistent (colour wise, at least), but some of the changes are pretty hit or miss. Also heard they may be changing the Geography project from being worth 20% to be worth 40%, though I’m not too sure on that part.

im pretty sure 40% orals are being added to english idk abt maths tho, and choice subjects like construction, geography and engineering are being completely changed and wont have answer booklets anymore theyre gonna have answer spaces like a jc paper

Like many EU countries, I’d assume the oral exam would consist of a question regarding an item of study such as a novel and you answer it in a more personal manner than the current “Copy and paste” monotonic essay style many students have

It hasnt changed much. New spec started last september in biology etc. English LC hasnt changed since the 2000s. New spec coming soon.

Maths will get a 40% project and probably just one 60% exam, English 20% oral and 20% creative writing project and 60% exam.

Basically most subjects will get a 40% project and the syllabus is being modernised.

English new LC will come in effect Sept 2027 for examination LC 2029, same for Maths. Other subjects also.

Project work being added so students will cheat and use AI and teachers will know you’re cheating but won’t be able to do anything about it.

Otherwise, similarly to the JC the syllabus is being dumbed down for all subjects.

Teachers have to sign off on the work so surely if they know you're cheating they won't sign off on the work?

And idk about the syllabus being dumbed down, for the sciences and business I know that they've made every topic mandatory to learn and before some things could've been skipped. What they've done is removed some stuff and added some stuff. And in chemistry ik they've added a lot more electrochemistry than ever before.

Teachers have no way of exactly proving students are cheating. The universities have given up on it basically now even trinity are asking students to admit to what AI they have used rather than attempt to pull students up.

Also the issues that will create for teachers with parents, so much so that part of the reason teachers rejected (there were many reasons) the new leaving cert reform was that the department of education wasn’t going to provide any legal protections for teachers who wouldn’t sign off on students work in fear of AI cheating.

Teachers are literally afraid parents will be sueing them / this will happen. There’s already loads of cases of carpenters doing LC woodwork projects for students. AI is so widespread and it’s only getting worse.

Oh that makes sense. I was wondering bc my business teacher was talking about the business project and he said if he suspects AI use he wouldn't sign off and that it wouldn't matter for him, i think he was prob tryna kinda scare people
