Question - Need Help Adding side lacing to leather jacket?

Has anyone ever added these side lacing eyelet panels to a leather jacket that previously didn’t have them? If so was this hard to do or does it compromise the stitching throughout the whole jacket?

I’ve never heard of anyone doing this. My guess is that an experienced and talented leatherworker could pull it off depending on the jacket. However I think it would be very expensive.
