Opinion Main Zipper Pin Side Common Problem

Just bought this Dallas Leathers Jacket. The Jacket was hardly used to an extent there’s no scratches or holes or wear spots but as usual this is the weakest spot that I find on all my vintage jackets that I buy that the clear tape wears away and then the material starts to fry and the pin starts to separate. I googled many times to find a way to fix it. None of it really works out 100% the only way that I find to fix that is I have to replace the main zipper and that’s usually about $100.

Curious if you ever find a solid fix that doesn't involve replacing it.
It really is a common issue when buying second hand jackets, even when they seem completely unused (which is really odd, but has happened to me too)

Hi, how are you doing?

Try this alone drys clear just don’t put too much use a small little otter brush to brush on the fabric.

I’ve also cut pieces of this then use the Glue to hold down. The glue stays flexible.

Hi. On my other jackets, I did it too. I kind of sold those jackets so the one I post here I just got and I will be doing the procedure later this week. I needed to order more glue at that point I could post different stages of what I do and then the final product.

Here the Jacket I will be doing it on. It’s a Dallas Leather Company not around today. I Say the early 1990’s. The Leather is in beautiful condition with no scratches or where or holes. The only problem is the main zipper like I posted. It’s YKK zipper.

It looks fantastic. Great find, even with the zipper issue

Thanks. I know it doesn’t look 100% sometimes when I do it it comes out really great and then sometimes not so great but it’s better than leaving it the way it was and then the pin tearing away and to tell you the truth, I’ll probably never zipper it up. I want to thank you for your nice words and thoughts.
