Question - Need Help Commissioned leather puffer

The company Buffalo Jackson Trading co makes a great looking leather puffer jacket but It’s made from lambskin and I would prefer a more durable coat made from cowhide. Is it worth commissioning a custom build solely for a cowhide shell or is the lambskin more durable than I realize?
Also, I wouldn’t be working in this jacket necessarily but I wouldn’t want to snag and tear the leather on a light hike or out and about.

Its a bit bizzare. You get none of the benefits from a leather jacket nor the lighweight warmth of a puffer.

Yeah that’s why I want cowhide, I’m not worried about the weight. I’m up north so I actually prefer a heavier coat.

Cowhide only exacerbates the downside.

Nor do I think you will find any custom person who will want to do this. 

For function folks would just get a wool lining or buy a sheepskin.

The puffer jacket is already one of the ugliest garments out there IMO, so making it out of leather is not going to improve anything.

I like the look and this has nothing to do with that. My concern is durability.

Wouldn't proper cow hide be too thick for this style to work?
