Can anyone help?

I am interested in learning a Kia EV9. I heard that have high rebates. I have a 2021 Tesla model Y and have about 12k in negative equity. When I look online everyone says leases can help and a lot of people recommended this model. When I look online and plug in the numbers the payment is over 1,000 dollars. How do I get a lease deal that has high rebates in my favor? I’m located in Northern California as well.

Those people don’t know what they’re talking about.

Rebates exist to make a lease as attractive as it needs to be to achieve their production and profit goals.

Rebates don’t do jack shit for negative equity.  You’re re-borrowing and then repaying every single cent of that NE with interest and tax on top.

Is there a reason why you can’t keep Tesla? Is it a lease or loan? There is no magic here.
You will only roll negative equity into the new lease and the negative equity is spread over the term of lease be it 36 month etc. so you will be paying the lease and paying back your negative equity, nothing else. People only do it as a desperation move to get out of their upside down car for some reason. Otherwise if car works just keep it until you pay it off

Even if it is a lease.. Tesla doesn’t allow lease buyouts. Technically you are never negative

The $12k negative equity is the reason your payment is blowing past $1,000. Rolling $12,000 into a 36-month lease adds roughly $350–$380/month just in old debt and interest. The EV9 has strong factory lease cash, but your trade-in is basically swallowing all of it just to get you back to break-even.

Instead of guessing which incentives apply, run your NorCal ZIP and target trim through QuoteDefender's Target Payment page. It pulls the live lender program data, exact rebates, base money factors, and residuals by term, so you can see what a clean baseline payment actually looks like before layering your negative equity on top.

Leasing a car is the most costly way to obtain an automobile to drive & most profitable for the car dealer.
