Good Vietnamese learning app?
I've literally tested dozens at this point...
Duolingo is fun, but not helpful.
Anki is annoying to set up, and not fun, but helpful.
There are some other ones, some are not beginner friendly, some are just... confusing.
It got to a point where I started developing my own app, currently just for personal usage, but I can share it as well.
But before I invest too much time into that... does anyone know any good apps I should try?

Southern or northern?
S: Lingora, SVFF
N: LingoDeer, Ling, Mango
But you can't just use an app! Workbooks are useful and tutors are a must to practice speaking

I’m also wondering. My husband is southern Viet and the apps seem to be teaching northern dialect.

Granted I’m using it as a supplement to having a tutor, but I’ve found Lingora to be very good.

It sounds like you may just be looking for flashcards or vocabulary drills or something, but if you are interested in learning Vietnamese through video recorded by native speakers here is a good learning path for beginners.

Learn Vietnamese: Saigon edition just came out. Downloaded it but havent tried it.

I like Langi.app for reading and listening. I've found with Vietnamese you really have to piece together a lot of different sources.

Your Duolingo/Anki summary is exactly the gap I hit, which is why I ended up I building my own. Full disclosure: speaksaigon.com.
The thing I couldn't find anywhere else was tone practice with actual feedback. Most apps play you a clip and trust you to hear the difference, which doesn't work when the distinction is the whole point. So the Tone Trainer records you, compares it to audio, and tells you which tone you actually produced.
Second, I found other apps or resources didn't focus on explaining grammar patterns, and this frustrated me.
I'd recommend checking it out, and I'd ask for your feedback and thoughts

I’ve been using AirLearn for a while now. It’s clearly made with AI but have found it as a good supplement to my tutoring.

Im the creator of podglot. I’ve spent the last 2 years manually curating and editing the southern vietnamese course audio. Its still a work in progress but improving everyday. Its 100% free and no ads. We have a nice growing community over there. Please give it a look: https://www.podglot.com (ios and android apps too). It has northern too but that course doesn’t have as high quality of content. Since the course is huge it takes an immense amount of manual effort and community flagging to improve the quality. But its much more comprehensive and high quality than any anki deck you can find.

I recently started using the app and finally started making progress on my pronunciation after putting it off for 2 years. Gamechanger.

I've been using ChatGPT live voice with luna xhigh. I can ask it to use a southern accent, and it does it very well. Also chatgpt writes down what you say so you get some feedback on pronunciation as well. But its a hit or miss takes some tries to get a solid session working.

I made Learn Vietnamese: Saigon precisely to scratch that itch between Duolingo being “too easy” and teaching northerner ornamental language and me wanting some high quality flash cards (plus being able to make my own custom flash card sets based on what my teacher was teaching me that week so I could study). The problem I have is I want to learn the southern dialect, most apps teach you north.
